OK so the time has come.....

.....I've done all my quals (C+G, 17th, NVQ3 and 2391) had a 2/3 years (mostly site, commercial experience) and some domestic (council flats work) but now I'm out on my own.

I have found a PJ. Mid size (mostly lighting (downlighters arghhh)) that NEEDS certificating. Bonding needs doing and some other bits. So I'm going to have to go for it.

Can you guys give me some advice on:

Elecsa, Napit or NIC
Notifying work and the necessary inspections.
Pricing this job (I only went to have a look at it today but I think its mine if i'm sensible).

Anything else for a "sortof" newbie.

Also, a "do I need to change the board" question. Its a RCD main switch (ie all circuits protected by one 30ma rcd). The house has 2 floors...

Your advice would be appreciated

well this is it with these part p schemes maundy.....now then, the nic AND napit would have you notify any work designated for an assessment through the LABC first before they will accept it as suitable for one of their assessments....so you can add the LABC bill on top of the part p cash.....so whats that? ÂŁ200-ÂŁ220...its just more money....tell you something else about em n all.....they will have you sign up to their warrenty scheme and even if the client doesn`t want to buy it...they will still charge you for it...i dont know how much it is.maybe ÂŁ3 per notification...thats on top of the notification bill you pay of course every time you notify.....couldn`t make it up could you..lol....elecsa dont work that way....first they are the only scheme provider that will let you notify the assessment work through them when accepted onto their scheme....you will still have to offer the warrenty scheme to clients after you have done work..but unlike the other 2...if the client doesn`t want to take out the warrenty cover...elecsa wont bill you for it.....

glad we agree on someting then. i still say EIC for earthing and bonding because all circuit characteristics may be altered, where a MWC only refers to 1 modified circuit.

theres other things to consider as well though....you will need a callibrated test instrument/s capable of conducting all relevent tests...you will need the original callibration certs for it/them n all.....you will be expected to perform a safe isolation...this will require you to have an approved voltage indicator to GS38 together with a known source of supply (such as the incoming side of a DP isolator) public liability in place ÂŁ2,000,000 minimum....BGB, OSG(1st) memarandum of guidance on the electricity at work regs 1989...a PDF download, obviously a job to show em.....

of course all circuits being fed from that supply utilising that earthing arrangement upgraded will have different characteristics due to the lower impedences introduced by earthing upgrade....so values obtained should be better than previous....hopefully..lol...
