1st time alone - some advice please from proper white van sparks.

OK so the time has come.....

.....I've done all my quals (C+G, 17th, NVQ3 and 2391) had a 2/3 years (mostly site, commercial experience) and some domestic (council flats work) but now I'm out on my own.

I have found a PJ. Mid size (mostly lighting (downlighters arghhh)) that NEEDS certificating. Bonding needs doing and some other bits. So I'm going to have to go for it.

Can you guys give me some advice on:

Elecsa, Napit or NIC
Notifying work and the necessary inspections.
Pricing this job (I only went to have a look at it today but I think its mine if i'm sensible).

Anything else for a "sortof" newbie.

Also, a "do I need to change the board" question. Its a RCD main switch (ie all circuits protected by one 30ma rcd). The house has 2 floors...

Your advice would be appreciated

Kitchen is not a special location - so dont bother going to look for it in the regs.
Napit do not make any demands on me regarding warranty and i have never paid for notifications as i get web credits with my all in subs that are more than enough for the handful of domestics i get involved with.
cheers

agreed a kitchen is not a specisl location, but work done in a kitchen is notifiable

no ..for kitchens you would find it in part p of the building regs....that DO recognise kitchens as a special location....

Cheers Glenn. With the exception of the insurance, i think I have all the rest. Probably need some new probe tips though - I'll bet they check that.
thanks maundy but dont forget theres been other contributors to this thread as well....thats what makes this forum what it is...

Really? Both my Part P building regs docs state that special locations are: Locations containing a bath tub or shower, swimming pool, pagglin pool, hot air saunas.
So in terms of Electrical regulations whats so special and where are the special electrical regs to go with it.

i am going to register with elecsa as a sole trader, looking into the insurance now, i understand public liability but why do i need professional indemnity

Well the first doc from NIC is just plain wrong but then again no suprise there. The second doc admits its not a special location and the goes on to justify why it should be special. I think i will stick with the building regs and BS7671

also noticed on the elecsa form they ask about electrical condition reporting assessment and it pushes up the price 240 plus vat do i need this? obv i will be carrying out eicr's
