Hello i have been asked to install an oven that is 3.6kw, i am wondering whether this would be fine plugged into a socket behind the existing oven taking into account diversity.

or whether i need to put it on its own radial supply.

Is there anyway of fusing a ring main down to 16amps?

Thanks.

So why in some MIs does it say "this appliance must be protected with a X amp fuse"?
The flex powering the appliance is sized according to the current it draws so surely the plug top fuse is doing the job of both?
I have to admit that it's not something I ever thought about before

Sod MI's, if an appliance needs fuse protecting then it should be provided by the manufacturer not an installation electrician. There are very few appliances that require a cord larger than 1.5mm, and a 13 A fuse is more than capable of protecting a 1.5mm cable. The plug top/FCU fuse is not, and never has been for the protection of appliances, any protection afforded being purely coincidental....

And back to the point of the thread!

Does this oven include a grill element? They almost always do and they can't be turned on at the same time as the oven element.
A pretty typical setup would be 1.2KW of grill (2 elements usually) and 2.4KW of oven elements.

Now how will a max load of 2.4KW do on a plug?
