So how is it companies round this way (2 double glazing firms) were quoting £23000 for a 4kW system last year but actually dropped their price to £14000 eventually?

still companies around quoting £15,000 for a 2 kW system. 99% of customers have common sense and tell them where to go but the 1% that don't.....

Because the dimwits come up with all these rules but have no way of policing them.

I lost a job last year to some one I had known for 20 years, he had a price for a system then offered me the job if I could come near it, I did everything by the book, the other company, by chance rang the same day and knocked £2500 off the price, how I do not know as my price was tight, I have yet to see the install, but what can you do?
Report them? What a waste of time that is, they would only deny it...

EVIL PROSPERS WHEN GOOD MEN DO NOTHING

Assemble all you can , copies of quotes, copies of predictions and photos of projects etc etc and send it to REAL care of Chief Executive Mrs Virginia Graham.
Post it recorded and she is obliged to investigate. At the very least it will trigger a REAL audit.

REAL currently have ongoing court cases against a significant amount of companies.

How significant? They say they are taking legal action against a number of companies but no mention of numbers significant or otherwise.

You can drop the price if the customer wants to haggle.

keeping your ear to the ground.
lots of people come and talk to us when we're doing installs, and I go and talk to people if they have a system (because they might recommend us instead of the company that did their install!) It's suprising what you hear!

Hmmm, Sorry to point this out, but it kind of contradicts what you have posted.

ah, but if the further discounted prices aren't intended to pressurise customers into signing a contract....

Our quotes are valid for 60 days, but we'll often recontact people in that period and offer a revised quote if the prices have dropped in the meantime, and I don't pay any attention to the £200 limit at that point. IMO this is a world away from the pressure selling techniques used by salesmen actually in the customers house, which this is really targeted at preventing.

Preasure is not me if the customer likes the company and we like business we both win.

REAL is not martail law it was set up to stop preasure selling on the night and drop closing and selling with preasure.

If a customer wants to haggle should I tell REAL ?

Hi guys

Many thanks for everyone's input. And thanks for the few PM's i got too.

I've just been on the comparemysolar website and noticed prices have come further down.

A 4kw HJ Solar system with a PowerOne Aurora Inverter ( inclusive of VAT and Scaffold) for £5925

What do people reckon?

I like the meerkats better. Its not the kit alone its the installer as well. The problem with buying in the dark is you dont know what you are getting untill things go wrong and they do go wrong this forum is proof of that. Yourmove.com

I don't know how they can do it for that price. That wouldn't even cover my costs on a yingli 4kw with SMA inverter and scaffold.
I would ask how long the install takes. If their roofers are done in 3-4 hours I wouldn't touch it. I know nothing about HJ solar and the quality so can't comment on that. The power one is quite a good inverter for the price, we used a few where we needed a 3.6kW dual tracker but now SMA have filled that gap they would be my first choice even though they are a little more expensive.

Is it a solar company or do they do other things (I.E general electrical work) if not, ask yourself, will they be around in a couple of years if there's a problem. If they are going to be around will they still have the capability to resolve the problem or will they only be able to lay a nice floor for you.

It's up to you at the end of the day. To a certain extent you get what you pay for (although historically some firms were charging unbelievable amounts of money, try 23k for a 4 kW system at a time we were charging £11500).

I would say, get 3 quotes, but don't just go on price. Go with the one you felt comfortable with and got on best with and seemed the most genuine.

If you chase the price to the bottom of the pile, then you can expect a system and service to match.
Personally I'm a big fan of the middle price!

off on my holidays now
pip toodle!
