Adding a new circuit?

Hi, I am adding a new lighting circuit to a house which i'm to use in my domestic installers assessment and wanted to know besides the new circuit being up to BS 7671 standard, what else if anything will need to be upgraded. It is a TT installation. Thanks

Is this a customer or a friends house that you are doing!!!

You will fail your assessement if you do not bond the gas and the water and you cannot just note it on the EIC.

You need to bond the gas and water back to the MET not to the earth electrode.

Dont install the lighting circuit unless you carry out the above.

As tony says, install bonding, and make notes on the EIC regarding non-compliances in the existing installation.
I'd mention the fact that the single 30mA RCD does not comply with Section 314 and negates the purpose of diving the installation into separate circuits.

Hi mate, I can bond the water no probs, but the gas bond would turn the place upside down. It's a friend doing me a favour for my assessment. Surely the inspector wouldn't have to know I bonded the gas and water. I could bond the gas near the water intake, surely that would not affect me passing my assessment it would just be noted on the EIC, gas bond wrong location.

Its your assesement Ross and the advice that has been given is how it should be done.

Shortcuts etc are not the way forward do the job and do it correctly to the regs.

Remember the assesor will not be a fool !!

short of getting hold of some slightly grubby green only 6mm earth cable. you'll either have to bond the gas or find another job for assessment.
