hello, got a job needs a supply outside to a log cabin for a hot tub, two socket outlets and one light.

what i was thinking of doing was running 10mm 3 core armoured.

i was goin to install a ccu next to original with a 30ma rdc. split the tails, henley block.

run the armoured 600mm underground 15m max, and once in the log cabin gland off and put another 3 way consumer unit again with 30mA protection.

then in t&e 1.5 wire a swich and light

in 2.5 t&e put two sockets in.

and off the same board wire in the hot tub.

will 10mm 3 core armoured over 15m be ok?

cheers guys!

havent done much armoured. if you know a better way, step by step it thankyou!

advise much appreciated!!

any outside switches would be good to be IP 65 or above, the grey plastic ones with a clear rubber cover are good for lighting, and one of those 32A yellow and red lock off isolator switches next to the CU would be good for the hot tub to be able to put a small padlock on it for doing maintenance(for example cables left lying bare in the future whilst waiting for a new pump to be delivered etc).....the 10mm cable looks good, and some plastic ducting as mentioned by telectrix is ideal to bury the cable in along with the electricity warning tape, just in case anybody is investigating a drainage issue in the garden in the future and thinks the duct is there for drainage and possibly blocked....stops them cutting it (and the cable) in two....

Okay....and im going to ask a silly question on the wrong thread (sorry Howard)

.......So...We are going to import an earth from a PME supply and bond pipes in what might as well be an out building?

Im so sorry.....

Im fick innit.

duck... that's all that's needed in the hot tub, swimmin round, waiting for the orange sauce

I think i maybe missing something here.... Is your PME system bonding requirments 10 or 16mm?? If 16mm then go with the 6mm XLPE SWA, and run a separate 16mm bonding cable back to the MET.

If as been suggested here, the water supply into the cabin and all the other pipework is plastic, then there obviously isn't a need for a bonding cable to be brought into the cabin...

My one concern is fitting the sub board inside the hot tub room. A waterproof box on the outside would make me happier. Say the trip operates, the owner gets out of the tub wet through and touches a RCD / MCB.
I’ll leave the rest to your imagination!

Agree, which is the reason i reminded him, of this cabin coming under the banner of ''Special location''. All these things need to be addressed, prior to his final installation....

I wasnt going to bother with metal clad board at log cabin end. As I'm not going to rely on the armoured strands as my earth, anyone have objections with this?

Not really, ...but make sure that the IP rated CU is man enough to connect a SWA cable to. Use a banjo or other similar device to extend the SWA armouring via a conductor to the CU earthing bar... If not man enough, then use an adaptable steel box beneath the CU to terminate your SWA too.

For £200 a day I can come and do the job for you if you like (plus expenses - travel, board etc), might be easier and safer for both you and your client
