evening all, i haven't the foggiest about how to put a video on here, but i managed to get one on youtube!

have a look at 'almost an electrical fire' - the closest i've seen to an electrical fire ever. jb was under foil covered insulation, in a loft where i think it had got wet due to condensation, no earths, and almost went up.

customer called me as he couldn't get light to go off! no wonder!

Ha Ha nope. But are you saying you got a full rewire just because of this fault?

not sure about the cause of the condensation,, other than just general difference in temp between outside and inside loft?

might have been a loose connection arced and carboned up. can't see any signs of a cpc either. if none, then a lighting rewire is the best way forward.

I'd be tempted to offer an RCD if it's viable, it's low cost and the best chance of picking up similar problems in future especially if there's a possibility of a repeat performance elsewhere in the ceiling.
