Well I can see one glaring error in the new PAT testing book already (or rather, ON it) - those washing machines pictured on the cover clearly aren't 'portable' so aren't covered under 'PAT' testing seeing as the P in PAT stands for 'Portable'

What does the wording state beneath the washers - no mention of the words portable or PAT.

Using the previous CoP, this would still have been addressed under fixed appliances anyway.

Yeah but it's for PAT testing. If you weren't just supposed to test portable appliances they wouldn't call it Portable Appliance Testing, they'd call it something else. :disguise:

Perhaps your illustrating the point perfectly. "It's" called PAT testing erroneously.

As a point of interest, I'd estimate most (80%) of the testing I conduct is on large fixed appliances.

It In Service Inspection & Testing of Electrical Equipment in other words if it aint in an EICR ie fixed wiring then its in this and it includes all equipment.

You fell into the common trap and misconception is that if it aint got a plug on it and you cannot move it around then you dont test it maybe best to have a look at the ISI&TEE COP

I have always tested fixed appliances, with strange looks of disbelief from the customer stating that ' the last guy didn't do that'. Never get asked back either as they pay more with me testing all, what a shame.:snore:

IMO there is far too much of that going on - customers want to tick the box as cheaply as possible so often go for the guy who will work for minimum wage because the only training he's had to do is a 2 day course; as far as he's concerned he's there to test anything which can be plugged in to his tester - everything else is somebody else's problem, therefore generally goes untested. The customer isn't going to get someone to do this 'PAT testing', an electrician in to do an EICR, then another person in to test the fixed appliances separately, or 'FAT testing', because there's no such thing.

I did my PAT testing qualification last year, as another added extra qualification to boost my CV.....massive error, employers had a field day, and my eyeballs are burning...PAT testing is literally the worst thing in the world. Is there anyway of undoing a qualifcation, like writing to city & guilds asking them to review the awarding and revoke it haha

You obviously haven't discovered the ZEN of PAT testing. Wrong medication?

If you look closely, it says "In Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment". This COP, if you delve beyond the front cover, covers ALL electrical equipment, that does not form part of the fixed installation, i.e the wiring and outlets.

Portable is just one of the categories covered, and there are quite a few, including, fixed, built in, etc etc.

Went to one of the Seaward seminars yesterday - v. interesting, especially regarding the fact that we have to advise duty holders of their inspection regimes and provide or assist in carrying out "risk assessment" of individual pieces of equipment. Yeah, most small small businesses are gong to be up for that !!!!

Also no "next test date".

Most small businessess already have a duty imposed on them by virtue of 7 (1) of the management of heath and safety regs - Every employer shall, subject to paragraphs (6) and (7), appoint one or more competent persons to assist him in undertaking the measures he needs to take to comply with the requirements and prohibitions imposed upon him by or under the relevant statutory provisions.

When small employers discover my background and qualifications, its funny how they want to have a quick chat over compliance issues.
