Have a clean slate of a bathroom to first fix. My builder mentioned that I should go for door activated or even movement PIR .. not keen. Also I’m not really interested in switch outside as it’s likely to get switched off by someone either accidentally or as a prank. Think I will stick to a pull chord with fan isolator above door on outside. Anyone recommend any trendy new high tech stuff that they’ve been installing?

It's the 21st century you know Pete..

What part Pee zone does that count as?

Pull cords are horrible...I also think they are unhygienic. The standard is obviously a switch on the outside, if someone accidentally turns it off whilst your in there then shout them to turn it back on. I’ve installed 1w leds in recesses in the bathroom on a seperate switch. Gives enough light to see what your doing in the middle of the night without turning the main spots on.

Hi Lee, which 1w lights are you using?

If you go pullcord chuck away the string and fit a metal bead chain cord, easily obtainable online. Looks cool and don't go a nasty off putting brown colour....and easily disinfected. One of our clients had us fit a PIR cos she couldn't abide the string, it drove her nuts, on/off all the time randomly. She's now on the beadchain pullcord and positively orgasmic with joy.

I have never understud why bathroom fan are wired to only come on when light is turned on .(I Guess its to do with building regs) I have a 2 gang switch outside my bathroom room door , one for the fan and one for the light so I can turn the fan on without having the light on in the day and can turn on the light i the middle of the night without turning on the fan , I fitted a fan isolator in the loft next to inline fan

You could also use one of these to do exactly what you suggested with a bit of work rewiring the switch and fan cables. When the switch is turned...
