Interesting section on tonight's show regarding fake MCBs that seem to be creeping into the market.

They compared a genuine one with a fake by showing you the insides, quite shocking really, especially when it blew up and burst into flame under their testing.

They had some industry bloke who went over to some South China trade fair, posing as a buyer, they basically offered to fake any brand he wanted :(

Kinda makes you begin to wonder about all this cheap gear on eBay......

I remember my college teacher telling me about these, I haven't seen the show but he said the breaker is constantly making a contact and there is just a bit of lead inside to weigh it down?

Asked my local wholesaler about it and they said they had never heard about fake breakers before

thats one reason for NOT buying from china the test rig they used looked like it was built by harry n tom in their shed did you see the giccies in the fans FFS makes you wonder

thats one reason i have never bought anything like that off the bay. mind you wylex have done alright lately with their duff mcb`s

I've seen fake circuit breakers before. On the outside they look the same but the weight of them is completely different because there's nothing inside them.

Still the muppets only realized after 11 months, thats all the subbing out of the production to private manufacturers in the far east no quality control or standards. The only time stuff is made correctly out in china is when it says made by X in china which indicates they own the factory and have their own quality control and standards, Take Hilti the stuff is made exactly the same as in germany just by chinese labour which is their real saving.:)

Absolutely correct they hold water, shrouds are totally unnecessary. 20s is 24mm spanner, 20 large is 30mm spanner.

I'm not entirely certain as it's very tough, but brittle when cold.
