does anyone else think these courses should be outlawed?

how people can honestly think you can go from zero knowledge to competent in these short periods of time is beyond me

at least two year training schemes should be mandatory for domestic

perhasp a system where you need three years for commercial and four for industrial

I personally think these courses devalue my profession, of which I for one am proud!

any thoughts...?

and let's face it, this electrics thingy. It's not exactly rocket science is it? :d

mind you, i'm a bit upset that at 38 i have no chance of becoming a good electrician. I wonder what plumbing's like :d

of course, all the above is meant in good humour.

go for plumbing!!! More money easy work, get gas safe as well and your minted..!! Also most are defined scope part p and get to bodge electrics as a hobby also!!

i should lnow how shoddy Mr electric was!! i worked for the franchise for 3 days!!! yup 3 whole days!! most work was taken up by homeserve insurance crap (as he some how was a prefered contractor) but the guy who owned the franchise was greedy

his words!! if the RCD stays on just fill test form in later! get another job done!! I left shortly after that!!

Thought i saw something on the news last year about them cutting job s to stay alive, must have been mistaken.

Yeah, had the letter saying we'll cover you for home plumbing and drainage on behalf of United Utilities.

Don't think the water supply will be freezing as its 4 feet under the ground and why would I have any plumbing problems when its only been in or 4-5 years.

Clowns

These money making scams should be stopped,
giving a misleading impression that you can earn a shed load of money if you become an Electrician, Plumber, carpenter etc when in reality it takes years to become fully trained & competent in your chosen field,
I know guys that are fully qualified Electricians (on paper) but have little or no pratical experience & struggle daily to get a start anywhere, most of them the victims of this type of advertising.

i rmember arguing with british gas few months back about boiler cover and electrics etc.. similar to home serve..!

well it went like this.. Mr Blakey i noticed you dont have electric cover,
me: i know
bg: we can do it for ÂŁ---
me: im a electrician
bg: yes but are you qualified to 16th part p
me: what
bg : have you been approved by the home office
me: no
bg: then you cant do any work in your house its illegal
me: yes i can
bg: no you cant your work would be substandard and you would be breakingthe law
me: substandard..!! what you on about!! i carry out work to a high caliber!! especially in my own home
bg: yes but it would be dangerous and would need to be checked by a part p electrician
me: i am an electrician...
bg: yes but your not a fully qualified one
me: cancel my boiler cover
bg: why
me: cause i think you dont have a clue what your on about! i have 7 years experience in domestic and industrial electrics, i hold ALL City and guild certificates including testing and inspecting and by the way i have done work in my house and other friends houses including wiring up a spur for a BG gas engineer, and before you go its the 17th edition now!!
