Hi Guys,

As the title says really, I'm after a multimeter that will stand the test of time and not fall to bits or give false readings after a couple of weeks! I know there's some experienced lads on here so which do you recommend?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers. :)

Think it will depend on what your trying to measure really. If you want an all singing all dancing one that does Capacitance, Frequency, Temperature, Duty Cycle and Diode/Continuity etc then your looking at quite a bit of money.

If you just want one that measures voltage, resistance and continuity then any sub 50 pound meter will be the same.

Why don't you PM one of our forum sponsors Teset-meter,co,uk they are excellent and give really sound advice, and you get a discount for being a forum member

Thanks for the quick reply Malcolm. One that does voltage, resistance & continuity with auto-ranging will probably be enough for now but with a budget of a 100 quid I'm just after the best I can get for the money. If your suggesting I can get the job done with any sub 50 quid model then that's the way I'll go.

And thanks for the heads up about the sponsors. Will take a browse over to their website. Meanwhile, has anyone else got any recommendations?

Look for value for money products from the following budget instrument makers:- Amprobe(part of Fluke group), Alphatek/Metrel(part of Metrel Group), DiLog, Extech(part of Flir Group), Kewtech and Uni-Trend(Chinese manufacturer, badged Uni-T, widely available on Fleabay and elsewhere). Dilog, Metrel, Extech, Kewtech and other meters are available with 5% member discount from Test-Meter our forum sponsors.

Hmmm... The t5-1000 seems to be quite a popular suggestion. Even one of the teachers at college recommended it.

Just to get one at the right price now... On eBay the price seems to vary between £62.00 and £100+!!!

As mentioned above there is a kit on eBay that has the tester the case for it and a voltage indicator for just over the £100 figure the case alone is £20-£25 the voltage indicator roughly £20

Thanks for that mate but I already have a light pen so just after the tester and case. Going by the prices on eBay I think around the 70 quid mark should secure one.

Just be careful as a few come from shanghai etc is prefer to pay a bit more and get from uk, I bought a phone charger from over there plugged it in went bang

Absolutely correct they hold water, shrouds are totally unnecessary. 20s is 24mm spanner, 20 large is 30mm spanner.
