the more expensive the bit , the sooner they sniff out a nail.

considering this cruel yet true anomally i find it best to just stick with the £1.50 spade bits from screwfix
;-)

Armeg do a wood beaver thats nail proof, its blue, and works well although I have yet to test its kryptonite abilities.

I also have a bosch flat bit that is slightly (deliberately) twisted, and is also painted blue and its brilliant.

neither were cheap. Aside from that I am with Mike (or is it Mark) - I just buy a 229 piece set from Wickes, etc for 20 snots and chuck them away when knacked up
impossible lol

cba reading all the replies, but I agree with MDJ. just get a cheap set.if they go blunt, just sharpen em.if they break, hey ho.

Best wood bit i have ever used and still using them are the new Bosch Selfcut Speed Wood Drill Bit. Their about 6 quid each but last 3 times longer than the spiral ameg ones .

I always use Milwaukee ogre bits, they go through joists in seconds and they are pretty tough against impact! You just have to put your drill on Gear 1 and they glide through. Armegs ogre bits are pretty good too! Milwaukee bits are only about £21 for 4, well worth the money I normally buy a new set every couple of months as I end up losing them or eventually they get blunt but they definitely earn their money first!

Well, they are touted as "nail proof".

I quote:

to me, nail proof infers....they are nail proof
