Hi all

I have recently started a job in building services maintenance. Coming from a domestic background, this is turning into a steep learning curve as they have thrown me in at the deep end and left to get on with it as an electrician knows everything right!? Anyway, my main concern is boiler houses and the heating controls. Everything seems ancient and built by Satchwell. Is there any info out there or good books explaining about interlocks and control panels etc as it's all a bit daunting and different to the domestic Y plans I have been used to. Most of the guys on this firm are gas/ combustion engineers and they won't touch any of it!

Cheers

give schneider a call or look on there website there based in ashby they can tell ya the kit.

it is all compatable with there new kit so it would be handy to know

If you are lucky there will be drawings inside the control panels, or other relevant paperwork in an office somewhere.
The absolute best thing is if you can find the guy who knows what it all is and how it is supposed to work and become his best friend.

When you got applied for the job did you tell them that you have a domestic background or did you tell them that you had experience with boilers and boiler controls?

^^^ wow!! The guy is only asking out of interest. If this dude ends up blowing himself up through a 3 phase panel because he doesn't have relevant experience then it's a valid question at that point eh!!

Does a Domestic spark have to always be a domestic Spark ?

Can anyone say they have started a new job and knew everything give the o.p a chance.

Familiarise yourself with the new plant. Seek drawings and advice from anyone willing. The bms software will be relatively simple once you've had a 'play'. As far as other electric components involved could be anything from vt and ct pumps (variable and constant temp) to outstation panels to actuators, solenoids etc. What is it your most concerned about
maintaining the plant or running the heating system

Does it matter the guy is asking for help not a davesparks headhunt . suppose you never blagged a job oh sorry forgot your perfect !

I fully agree with Dave. The guy would appear to have landed a job he isn’t competent to do. There seems to be no evidence to the contrary.

If the guy is only used to domestic installs then he could soon find himself in deep .......
And mayfair you sounded like our lass when you said "whatever" I can't bloody get away from her lol

The problem here Mayfair is that the OP will hit the ground and be unable to run. The employer will be in deep water if there's a problem he can't sort.
Yes there's a lot of people who have blagged their way into jobs but they're usually found out and disposed of pretty quickly. A sacking never looks good on anyone's CV

thats quite a small plant room

2 boilers. and 2 pump sets.
cant make out a lot more in pic

is that flex feeding the pumps? or fp im guessing there small 1.1/3.3kw pumps

yes lol its a quite small and in regards to controls and didnt want to scare the op to much :D

2 boilers (one for a back up
2 heating pumps (as above)
2 dhwhp pumps (as above)
2 pipe stats
1 immersion heater lol
3 divert valves
3 flow senors
1 stupid cat 5e controller cable direct back to county for adjustment

thats about all i can remember for now

and yes the pumps are connected with heat resistance flex but the don't use much power (the top two are normal domestic heating pumps and the bigger ones are nearly the same just have more low end grunt)
