bonding to gas

L

leedsleccy

Hi guys

been to a job today where the bond to gas is within the meter box only and doesnt run back to the met at the consumer unit, is this ok? the bond to water goes to consumer unit.

thanks

I'll bet it's from the electricity meter PME block, straight to the adjacent gas meter?

542.4.1 In every installation, a main earthing terminal shall be provided to connect the following to the earthing conductor:

The cpc's

The protective bonding conductors

Functional earths

LPC's

No because there is than no provision to disconnect the earth (officially) and so when testing will produce parallel paths in your Ze.

Yep..I reckon you are right........if thats the case, while not strictly complying with the regs I dont think I'd lose any sleep over it.

another complicated electricians question, erm let me think,
yes im pretty sure the bond should be connected at the other end but i may be wrong

in india perhaps?

Might even get away with being a sparks out there.

Sorry, maybe we're going a bit far here, but it is a bloody silly question. I would seriously ask yourself whether you are indeed competent to be carrying out this work - bonding is page one day one, and if it's not connected to the MET what do you think is the point in it? It's not there to look pretty, is it? If you're missing this, which is pretty fundemental, what else are you missing?

I really hope this is a wind up from the screwfux forum.

Found it.

sorry everyone ive been away all day so couldnt respond.

i never made myself very clear.

Basically its exactly what Iq Electrical said! The bond to the gas connects straight from the main pme block to the meter.

I just expected it to be from consumer unit to gas meter.

many thanks sorry for no reply

While not strictly correct I wouldnt worry about it...unless it would be easy to change. It can always be disconnected at the gas end for testing....just make a note on the cert.
