bonding to gas

L

leedsleccy

Hi guys

been to a job today where the bond to gas is within the meter box only and doesnt run back to the met at the consumer unit, is this ok? the bond to water goes to consumer unit.

thanks

You could always disconnect from the gas pipe and fit an external MET.

As it's a PME, if the conductor coming out of the head is less than 10mm^ I would call the DNO to get them to upgrade it. I know they don't work to the BRB but if it's less than 10mm^ they should come out and change it for free

you could cut it at the intake and fit a met then run all your bonds/earth from there to db and gas.water.

then if required the dno can fit a new larger piece from head to met (unless youre brave and competent enough to open the head and renew yourself - not advising this.

While not strictly correct I wouldnt worry about it...unless it would be easy to change. It can always be disconnected at the gas end for testing....just make a note on the cert.

Exactly, it would be a code 4 on my periodic, I see it so often on new-builds!

My real bug-bear is the main protective bonding being taken from the earth electrode of a TT system, now that's poor and I always code 2 it....

Say that again IQ. You mean you se it where the bonding conductor is attached directly to the electrode instead of an MET?!! Really?!?

I had one on a PIR in November and then there was a post on this forum describing it or asking if it was acceptable!

I'll have a search for the thread!

Unbelievable. And what time does that gain or what good is that?? What a useless install.

That was only the half of it, chases at insufficient depths for back-boxes, consumer unit hanging off the wall, security lighting with 6242-Y entering the fittings without any form of IP protection, I emptied a glass-full of water from one PIR floodlight!

Firm had disappeared, no paperwork, client paid cash-idiot!
