I've got a trip to BG assessment centre next week. Anybody done rhe tests and willing to tell a fellow what to expect?

But I want a van that flies to avoid the damn roadworks..............:smug:

Just now, I would be happy to have a car that starts up & can get off my drive.

My old Mazda 626 and even older Toyota MR2 have both got knackered batteries and neither of them will start.

That said, I don't really want to be driving about in this weather anyway.

Neither do I.......

It's been snowing again and the roads are black ice. I am glad to be home, though our estate is like Moscow still.

Cheers jthes. On phone so can't give a thanks at the mo.

Yeah this is BG spark job. Decent money and, after seeing the ad on the telly, the workers all look pretty happy!!!

Must admit that reading between the lines on first test, a bit of selling is implied. Not too keen on that.

Good job my old boss didn't advertise on TV the or he would never have got any one apply for a job.

A fellow Sparky asked a simple question, only to get the'Know it all' brigade spilling out their BULL!

Just observations really i would presume, i am not a 'know it all, in any sense of the word, but i know exactly what all these posts are on about

the amount of people i have had call outs to who have actually got BG electrical cover insurance but when they get a fault, all the BG engineer does is makethe slightest excuse for why he cant work on the system cause its dangerous
And sticks one of them stickers on it

then comes in a rediculous quote for the remedial work

i also had an old lady nearly in tears beacuse BG had told her they cant work on her electrics as her fuse board is 'illegal' lol! (Wylex rewireable) and likely to imminently cause a fire and it was about £800 to replace it!

the only problem was that water had got into an outside light and kept blowing the lighting circuit

1x call out fee, bit of silicon and a plug in mcb, job done!

this isnt a one off, i had had this dozens of times and im only a one man band, it also sounds like most of the chaps on here have had similiar experiences

maybe its not the engineers competancy thats the problem, but certainly the ethics and business practices of the company they work for, and i for one couldnt get up every morning knowing part of my job is to put the hardsell on my customers using threats of fire etc and scaring them into paying rip off prices, while insuring them under a policy which isnt worth tuppence, and is only meant as a lead generator for more chargable works!

I'm all for the Anti-incompetent but I have put this across, you guys have to remember when you work for a company as big as BG a lot of the time you are given sales targets (even as an engineer) which you must meet each month and sell customers gear. I know a boy who left Eurotherm 20-30 years ago because of this, he enjoyed fixing instrumentation onsites and basicaly being a call-out fault guy, but once they started to ask him to sell customers X amount a month he left. And I can understand why. Not sure if this is the case with BG but it could very well be.
