Just a quick heads up guys, it's official, C&G have extended this qualification now until 2012, so anyone who wants to get on it, be quick!!

Hi all,
New to the forum live in Gibraltar working in the electrical industry for 5 years.
Got my 2382 Just wanted to know is it worth starting the 2330 now even with this extension or should I just spend a lot more and go for the 2357?
Any information would be brilliant thanks everyone.

It's not a question of how much money you spend. the 2357 does not exist yet. I suggest you contact your training provider of choice and see what they are offering. There will be a way to transfer from 2330 to 2357 when it actually starts, but make sure your provider knows your circumstances - for older guys, particularly those not on an apprenticeship scheme, it may be difficult to complete. I suspect C&G have by now realised this, and may be reformulating the course so all will have access to it, but don't hold me to that, and don't hold your breath while waiting! Is the electrical industry/regulations the same in Gib as in the UK?

There will be a way of converting, you will take unit 23 (Enviromental) of the 2357 in addition to your 2330. Ringer is correct about the age thing as this is exactly the reason i am doing the 2330. You have to remember that the 2330 will still be valid once the 2357 is in operation, its not like the regs being upgraded from 16th to 17th edition. The 2330 plus your 17th edition will be suffice to work as a qualified electrician and be elegible to be gain membership of an appropriate trade organisation. Niceic will accept a 17th edition and two job inspections to become a domestic part p member (plus ÂŁ370.00 a year)

Great info guys thanks, Will look into sorting this 2330 out maybe with able skills or similar.
As for regulations in Gibraltar its no way near as strict as uk a lot of spanish cowboys and such so being qualified is a must for me! Thanks

Hi High tower

this is the response that i finally got back from C&G

Thank you for contacting City & Guilds Customer Relations.
I can confirm the final registration date for the 2330 is 31 March 2011. Once registered, candidates will have until the end of March 2013 to complete the award. Traditionally, candidates who completed the 2330 would then move on to the 2356 NVQ (which also has a final registration date of 31 March 2011). The subject matter which would have been covered by these two awards has now effectively been put together in an updated format which is the 2357.
It is worth noting that all awards have a finite life span and at the end of that term, they are updated, replaced or closed down for good. This becomes even more important where health and safety is concerned such as the electrical awards. In this particular instance it should also be noted that vocational awards have been shifted from the previous framework to the new QCF framework which has, in some cases, changed the funding available. This was brought about by the Department for Education and enforced by Ofqual meaning the changes could not be refused by City & Guilds. Should you require any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact the Customer Relations team on 0844 543 0000.

So now I am confused. High Tower is saying one thing, which he says he is certain of, and C&G are saying something else.

Hi mate hope you are right and C&G are wrong

I have asked them in email and by telephone today they say it ends tomorrow yet there website says different

City & Guilds | Electrical installation

I have contacted loads of different colleges today also and by email over last few weeks
Bolton college say its ending 31st
Oldham are not taking more new candidates only the lv 2 will be able to do the lv 3 from sept
Wigan and Leigh nobody answering the phone joke
Warrington I am waiting for the tutor to contact me the lady i spoke to says she will email him to contact me
St helens only got email addy no reply
Bury college put me throught to the relevent department only to be told by answer machine nobody available to take call and promptly ended the call try again in morning

I just hope you are right mate and these are wrong as i have been trying to get on this course for last 2 yrs

I have also got a mate of the forum trying Leeds college or keighley which are both over a hour drive
they need to sort there act out at these colleges and C&G are joke as they seem reluctant and very unhelpful considering how much we all spend on there courses

Hi John

basically i would go wherever i can drive to in a reasonable time and the course is a reasonable price, unlike some of the private courses i done
As I have tried countless times to get on this course mate
how many days a week is your course, daytime or evenings

1 day a week mate (Wednesdays. I think there is a night group too but don't quote me on that)
Mine was part funded so just had to pay $189 towards the course Fee.

Im pretty sure it will be running this year mate as there are Level 2's doing the course plus the college will no doubt want to make as much money as they can during these Tory cuts :p

they are also gonna be delivering the 2399 course a well very soon (had 1 of the External Verifiers in the other day setting it up)

EDIT I think the L3 course was about $1050 which will probably mean about 1200 now

Just to update everyone

I have managed to get on the 2330 lv 3 at last had to do mad dash to warrington but i am now enrolled the tutor said he had been onto C&G all day and they also said they dont know what is happening with the 2330 but on the C&G website both the 2330 lv2, 3 and the NVQ 2356 have now got the last registration dates as 31/7/2012 so after all the hassle i have had non stop phoning them and the colleges that run it they have decided to extend it as the 2357 is obviously not ready again

So guys it looks as if you now can still enrol for it upto july next year but dont blame me if C&G change there mind again if they dont know , the tutors dont know how are the students able to know?

Thanks to Hi tower for bringing it to my attention that he believed it was being extended
the colleges and C&G just need to sort there acts now lol
