C

craig

Anyone know todays version of the city and guilds 236 "c" course I sat years ago ?

Ok cheers.

I'm only asking as I currently work with a guy who says that he has a part 4. He says that he's the only person he's ever met who actually has this part 4 qualification and he seems to be of the opinion that it's equivalent to HNC. I can't tell if he's for real or just some sort of a walter mitty type character lol.

Hi There,

Never heard of the part 4 at all, that said doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

When I was doing my quals 236 part 1 and 2 I did a HNC in engineering along side it at nights. The maths was so B***** hard.

I got told by C&G a few years back that I shouldn't worry about what the relevant quals are comparable to now as the 236 is still recognised...

I would hope it is still recognised, the 236 was a genuine, 'full' course plus AM1 and AM2, sorted the men from the boys!

Fully agree with you there... I can remember doing overhead lines.. with the wind battering the hell out of me... All my instructor could say was if you can do it in this you can do it anywhere... He wasn't wrong!!!!

Your c course mate is worth more than any of today's guilds for electrician's. It was the top course then, the follow on from 2361 and 2362 and you could say it the 2363, and its a shame it as gone, because I would of took it at my age.

Yes, the 'C' course was what first gave me an interest in the design of installations.

Back then, I only took it because my company was paying and it was more time at college with the lads.

My project was a health centre and I remember spending a ridiculous amount of time coming up with a fixing method and detail for the large examination lights in the assessment rooms, great days, great course!

hi gents

i have done both the c course and the new 2400 design course

the c course was more technically orientated see my prvious post and the design course ids just that a installtion design .

confusion may be due to that the c course also had a design project with it in 1993 it was a library Round so you could not get the voltdrop in one circiut etc.

cheers

It was a while back late 70's but I can't actually remember doing a full project for the C. There were loads of 3 phase theory and such which I thought would never end and then there were design scenarios but they covered a wide range of things, nothing though domestic, I wonder if that is why older sparks still consider domestic for the apprentice or a young sparks out "jobbing".

When the 16th came in during the 90's I remember doing the upgrade and as things were a little different then I was advised to do the 2391 and the 2400. That was when I did the full blown project mine was a church all in pyro, and it was a real bark ....

Happy days .........

IQ Electrical ---- you obviously did your C course the same year as me. I came across my project with the examination room light scenario when I was moving house......I must dig it out again ! I wonder how you did yours ??

I did my C course as I was basically told by the tutors at the "tech" I was, I remember it hard going maths wise but I enjoyed it......I do occasional courses now but they are not enjoyable.....what has changed...maybe by age !!

So, back to the begining is my "C" course worth anything now or worth upgrading to todays version ?

Ive done the "C" Course and also been told it will be accepted to get on the HNC or HND, with out it you need to do the NC or ND.

the 2400 or 2391-20 will not get you on the HNC/D this should tell you of its value.
