hi all,

i have an issue i replaced a light at my door today but it keeps tripping when i take the light off the trip switch stays up, the fuse that keeps tripping has lights and the spur for the alarm system on it (no idea why they wired it like that). any ideas?

The earth will of course need connecting to the new light. The old light had live and neutral connections to it. Have a look at lighting wiring diagrams and all will become clear. Then call a good local electrician who will be able to safely connect the new light.
 
every light,switch or socket its been like for like but the old light had two black wires straight to the bulb holder which comes from the l1 l2 in the switch the red were twisted together same as the earth. so if i runthe black wires to the live is it going to work yes or no.?

If the reds and earths are just twisted together then you have potentially got some serious problems with your installation.

You need to get an electrician to look at this

Wow, you do realise how potentially dangerous electricity is don't you?
 
Call an electrician. Always wire a new light in same way as the old, if it's been working correctly..
Dunno about that, I've come across fittings with the perm live connected to the earth terminal of the fitting.

No idea why the OP felt the need to connect this fitting different to what it was, he's probably searching the internet for a new MCB now as he has killed his.

My guess is an earth to N fault in the damaged light fitting. This will become a problem when other devices draw large currents.
