I got half way through a course like that and learnt what i needed to pass the exams but didnt understand what i was actually learning neither did it teach you how to deal with problems that were nt going to be on the test so i gave it up and started from square one and after nearly 4 years studying and working with some good time served electricians i learned alot and now know what im doing.......well most of the time. :) but im still learning everyday as are guys that have been doing it many more years than me. so id save your ÂŁ2500 and invest in a good tool kit and try and get on as an apprentice.

hi everyone,

im thinking of becoming an electrician! ut ive been told that you have to register with a company to hand out the certificate after you have completed the work (ie landlords certificates) or ( full re-wires) or (after you have done your work) is this true if so how much is it to register so i can hand out ertificates and do they give you the certificates!!!!!! again many thanks simon

It is around ÂŁ450 a year and you have to buy your certificates, and you dont just "hand them out" they are issued for the work you have installed and tested.

Gotta like that "hand certificates out" unreal 4 weeks and am an electrician. Can someone tell me where this 50k a year is cos am no where near it nor have i been in 16 years!

Am speechless on this post, well other than the laughter coming out whilst rolling round laughing!, must laugh to avoid the utter insult to us who have served our time properly!
I had a good apprenticeship based mainly on industrial/commercial install, did do testing then went out subbing to firms doing the same thing now after over ten years since the start of my time i have set up a firm with my mate & realised how much we are still to learn, not that i thought i knew it all cus i didnt but its a whole new world when ya go out on your own & not just installing from an issued drawing & domestic n form filling etc that i hadnt previously done, i have always maintained as im sure many of you do, everyday you are leaning in this game ;-)

The day I stop learning will be when I retire.
