Hi everyone, long term visitor to the forum but first time posting a question... be gentle

This question is with regards to the changes to the 18th edition certificates, which only require one disconnection time recorded.

When recording the highest value taken when carry out RCD tests, Reg 415.1.1 requires disconnection times of 40ms when tested at a current equal to or higher than 5x its rated residual operation current.
What has become of the disconnection time of for example BSEN61008 RCD's at 30 mA which would of be acceptable up to 300ms. Is this not the case now?

Ps sorry if this makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

Thanks in advanced

reg 643.8 and 415.1 state that 30mA G RCDs would be tested at 5 times the rating (150mA). 5IAN is a more realistic value for basic protection. I think that a test for IAN would be expedient as it confirms that it is neither over sensitive or lacking in sensitivity.

Thanks for the quick reply, so what becomes of the value if its higher than 40 ms at 1x the rated the current? As previously I would have recorded the highest value of both cycles of the rcd tests, which would be acceptable up to 300ms
As well as the highest of 5x etc... am I misinterpreting the regs and in believing that both results need to be 40ms or less now, as surely I can't record a value greater of 40ms if I can only input one result... as it would have to be the highest of all tests... I'm still confused to say the least but as always I'm probably reading to much in to this I'm sure..

The Ă—5 value is for additional protection so this is what you record, the highest from the two tests taken. For other rcds such as 100ma you record the highest Ă—1 value.
The times have not changed, for 61008 and 61009 devices you have Ă—1 (300) and Ă—5 (40).
For BS4293 devices you have Ă—1 (200) and Ă—5 (40).

Way I see it is record the highest value for whatever the RCD is being used for, I.e additional protection (x5), or fault protection(x1), or fire protection

REG 415.1.1 DOESNT MENTION ANY DISCONECTION TIME?

Depends what the RCD is being used for, if for additional protection the 5x measurement is recorded.
If for fault protection the highest 1x measurement is recorded.
