Just i simple question peeps.

When chasing out a wall to fit 1.5 twin and earth how far do you have to chase? 50/65mm? Also you cant just plaster over the cable cause thermal insulation.. whats the plastic cover called? which you place over the cable then to plaster/fill over?? and is this tacked into place with small nails?

Sorry if its a stupid question. so far all my work has been done on metre square boards lol

Just far enough so the plasterer doesn't rip it to shreds

Capping, not always needed, some people use some don't.
Yes galv nails if you can get them in, otherwise screws if it's granite blocks or concrete.

It isn't properly no, but imo its better than oval conduit - im not saying either/or is wrong.

Depends on the job - it's not actually a requirement to earth the capping, it's just seen as good practice.

pyro , swa , metal capping , oval pvc.
none will stop a nail , only steel conduit does that so anything else is a waste of time ;-)
good grief its a house so just clip direct & plaster.
use the time saved to watch t.v. or something.

the amount of effing and blinding done when a cable is damaged in the wall and you cant pull a new piece through as the lazy sparks previously didn't bother using any oval !!!!

cant stand cables directly buried !

I normally use oval or PVC capping. PVC capping for new build and whatever is quickest in chases. I F'ing hate metal capping and do not see any point in it at all. The only reason I dont clip direct as BIff has suggested is that other trades tend to get the impression you are a lasher and it my damage my reputation.
