Just i simple question peeps.

When chasing out a wall to fit 1.5 twin and earth how far do you have to chase? 50/65mm? Also you cant just plaster over the cable cause thermal insulation.. whats the plastic cover called? which you place over the cable then to plaster/fill over?? and is this tacked into place with small nails?

Sorry if its a stupid question. so far all my work has been done on metre square boards lol

the amount of effing and blinding done when a cable is damaged in the wall and you cant pull a new piece through as the lazy sparks previously didn't bother using any oval!

Lazy? Or cost effective? I don't use oval, I just clip direct... Why would I cut out part of my profit to make life easier for someone else 50 years down the line?

not just for sparks 50 years down the line !

90 percent of the time, you will be the one revisiting the job as its most likely the same customer !

say a cable gets damaged in a socket outlet, least with oval you can usually pull some slack down ?

I'm not in this game to waste money mate...

I'm in it to do a job properly but efficiently...

If I do an installation, I do it correctly, within the regs and as long as all is good when I leave, I'm happy.

Sorry, but really not forking out my own cash and time, in order to make things easier for the next guy who comes along to work which may never be required...

When I install a socket or switch, I leave a few inches of cable in the backbox so the fixture can be changed, or the cable can be trimmed if damaged. I'm not about to start leaving slack and the means to draw it through, just in case it gets needed in future!

and the once in 10 years that may happen justifies fitting conduit on every job ?
if the cables are properly laid in the PVC/metal channel...they can usually by used to draw some new in should the existing get damaged........further more, if the original installer had a bit of foresight...he would have left a loop....so if the cable was damaged at a knockout box/point...there would be enough to pull down and make off again....

The chemicals in the plaster can damage the life of the cable let alone the damage a plaster can cause. Always use oval conduit to protect your cables and install in a way that you could draw new cables in the future, make sure there deep enough so plaster doesnt crack come the end of the job.Dont clip direct to the wall unless builder is using dob & dab.

botty hole talk again i see...
getting to be a nightly event in here now...
like i said at #24....properly installed cables in properly installed channel is a cheaper method...thats perfectly good...and dont try telling me that cables wont pull in it....
caus i`v done it....loads of times....
