It is 10:25 PM and i have just had a call out come in for a suspected blown main fuse !!!
To make it worse I am back home in Linc's and they are a 130 miles away in Bucks "#########".:furious3:
I just hope one of our lads have laid of the fire water and are sober enough to answer the phone ?
It is at times like this , being the boss is not all it is cracked up to be !!!
At least i might get to see Santa on the drive down !?

Merry Christmas to everyone anyhow . :christmastree1:

The City Of Westminster, it's kind of an important place, covers Oxford Street for example which is an important tourist attraction at this time of year. 18k is less than a minutes income for the area as a whole today

I probably know more about the ins and outs of what he does and doesn't get paid than you

And you can just see a local council coughing up 18K for 3 day's of maybe sitting on his arse can't you!! Wishful thinking is fine, ....reality however is another thing!!!

I'd like to see Any Council anywhere in the UK substantiate that sort of expenditure in the present day climate. They may pay that rate if called out to do actual work, but not for sitting on his arse for 3 days. It'll be for actual and a few phantom hours worked on the call outs!!!
oh i bet theres someone dug in there someware eng mate......

Not as out of touch with reality as you think!!

Your trying to convince us that the council electricians don't have a contract of working hours to cover high days and holidays?? You expect us to believe that a single electrician is on duty for 72 hours at a stretch, against just about every UK labour working hours rule in the book??

Now your trying to say that council electricians are on such fantastic salaries, that 18K doesn't make-up a substantial amount of their basic salaries??

I'll stick to the world of realities, and let you get on with your wishful thinking of your someones fanciful world!! lol!!

I don't particually care who he works for, there isn't a council in the UK that's going to pay anyone 18K for 3 days. Especially on a stand-by basis. Even more so in today's present climate where councils are facing drastic cut-backs...

If you don't care who he works for how would you know his rates? You obviously haven't read the thread

Anyway it's 1:30am and the old adage of arguing with idiots and getting beaten by experience is coming in to play, so I'm off to bed as I'd hate to be sat at a computer arguing with someone on Christmas day at 9:30am

Maybe you should try it ;0)

It’s only since my health forced me to quit work that I’ve had Christmas day off from work. But I don’t think I’ve ever had to acutely do any “real” work over Christmas it has always been the case that we had to provide cover 24/365 no matter what day it was.
My son used to enjoy our morning walk around the works doing a safety inspection. He used get spoilt rotten in the various control rooms we went to.

I wish you all a merry “restful” Christmas.:santa:

It was the same for me when I was a lad. My Dad sometimes got called out at this time of year to move or repair opencast face shovels and draglines, I was fascinated and scared at first, but soon grew to love it. That was my first experience of " The crack".
Times have changed , that would never happen now.

I doubt if you as ''Kids'', would be even let in the gate these day's!! There is always someone, or a body, that put the mockers on things like this!!

I am glad to see things have calmed down a bit now !

As it happens there are plenty of sparks in the wally pages but we pride our selfs on customer service and loyalty so i could never even entertain the thought of possibly getting a chancer to do one of our jobs ! ( Not to say all the sparks that advertise in it are , but i would not know them from Adam ! ).

And no it did not even pay for one of the presents under the tree , for existing customers we charge the same rate as the standard day rate per hour and only for the time on site ! No matter what time , day or even type of job it is .
That is why nearly all of our customers do not even bother to ask for a price when we are commissioned for a install no matter what the size of the job , they already trust us to do right by them .

It was a bad connection on the tails that had just Finlay given out , so a reasonable easy fix in the end as they were only in the next village along from our stores ,( Good job it was not the main fuse as i have never come across a spare one of them before !!!):devilish:
As for the ÂŁ250 a hour man I do believe you as we used to cover all of the the out of hours jobs for a about 9 months across a fair section of the south east for what was paradine housing when they got brought out by connaught and the money then was truly good !
But only when on a call out !!!!
