Confused !

And I’m hoping someone can throw some light on the situ.

I’m going to apply for a ECS card.
My qualifications are: C&G 2360 (1&2) in 2003 , C&G 2391 in 2009 and 17[SUP]th[/SUP] Ed.

ELECSA (I’m part P member) have informed me that 2360 + 17[SUP]th[/SUP] Ed are equivalent to the NVQ 3 required by the ECS people.

However the young guy I spoke to at ECS, was adamant that I had to have the NVQ 3, (informing me with a bunch of tel no.s for suppliers of the course !).

Not wishing to labour the point, I thought I’d see if any of you guys could throw some light on the situation? I.E ‘Who’s correct’ ?

I’ve had a read around, but can’t seem to find anything that specifically states this as a fact, you know, something that I could physically show him, or staple to the enrolment/application form.
I am aware that I’ll have to sit a cscs H&S test and do a AM2 exam (I think), but these can be sorted relatively quickly, where-as the NVQ3, takes plenty of time and money, both I’m short of (aren’t we all?) Plus getting a little fed up with jumping through hoops and coughing up for Red tape (oh, don’t get me, started……)

Thanks in advance

The criteria for the Electricians gold card I think is virtually unchained now for quite a while. You either have to have served a full apprenticeship or have the NVQ 3

I may be wrong with this as it does change quite a lot, but my ECS card lists that I have completed an apprenticeship and a younger lads I see list they have the NVQ 3

upto about 18 mths ago you could get a jib gold card with 2360 part 1 & 2 plus 17th ed cert and some good employer references.
sadly you wont get a sniff now without nvq 3.

what do you want an ecs card or a jib card? they are very different

An ECS card……
But they aren’t gonna give me one of them (no nvq3).

Tbh don’t know what use a JIB card would be, as I want to work as an Electrician.

Having only ever worked on Domestic stuff, these CSCS, JIB ECS and others are all a bit of a mystery to me.

I know that some of these cards are graded, and as such, you’re paid on that grade. I guess I should investigate what that’s all about

You will need one to get on site, worry not about the grade.

So just get a JIB card and wing it from there ?

I'd be trying to get a start with the Underground (london Transport), they tell me I need a LUCUS card, which is fair enough.
But I'd be getting work through an agency, and I would have throught they'd be asking for my ECS card to give me the work......

How strict are employers on site, regarding the ECS card. I hope you get what I'm trying to say.
Cheers

Get it completely mate, thought they would want trackside card (p.t.s), maybe lucus is underground equivilent? At the end of the day, or rather the start of the day, the site manager see's your card, your on. no card no job! grade matters not.

one card means you have proven competance as a spark, the other means you have done a health and safety test. to me at least, that is very different
You are right in that. But... you will need the basic before you get past the site manager and induction, they don't give a ===, as long you got the card.

P.S. My card has me as a level 2 trainee, cos firm went bust before my nvq3? so no gold card, but I've met better than me with a lower grade, and worse with a higher? hope it helps, the card is a site pass, not a qualification. Anyway, if you fail that exam, you shouldn't be allowed out the house, never mind on site. Cheers

I'm glad I posted this up here, these answers are sure to help others, 'cause sure is helping me out.
@ moospark, the exam your talking about is the health and safety one? Right?
Anyhow, I'm gonna get on the blower tomorra and see if the JIB people will tell me what sort of Grading I'd get.

Slowly, I maybe seeing the wood for the trees.
So, what's the differance between a CSCS card and a JIB card, hang on, let me phrase that differantly. Is a CSCS card for a certain type of work and the JIB for an other? What I trying to get at , which one should I go for ? Both ?

PTS card is the trackside - over ground, and Lucus is the underground one, and as winters coming, I wanna be inside (southern softy - and I don't care ! )
Cheers
