Spazz

I have recently moved into a new house, I have my assessment coming up in March time
The Consumer Unit currently has spears reading everything - no loops for anything.

Its an old MK unit with the old type MCBs (15A and 30A) and no RCDs

I am wondering if NAPIT would be happy with a CU change with everything as spares. I know I cant go any change the whole house to loops - and Im not as Im renting, ut Im not happy with the fact of no RCDs and 2 little boys who are obsessed with plug sockets. I do have covers on everything but the risk is to high for them to pull out a plug and put their fingers in.

By the way there are 2 Consumer Units - 1 for General Electrics and 1 for Space Heaters in each room (15A MCB) per heater.

I am going to get these in the next few days

I have seen some which you need a magnet for to open them, so all the better.

Check this site out with regards to your socket covers.

I have seen this happen before and thats another reason why I really want a RCD on the circuit as a minimum.
I have a 1 year old and a 3 year old.
The youngest is getting into sticking things against the sockets (because hes seen us plugging in the hover, etc) but the 3 year old has just gotten out of it now.
I just dont want the risk of 1 sec turning my head and to late

i assume that by loops, you mean ring final circuits, and by spares you mean radials. radials are fine as long as you fit the appropriate MCB. going by your post and your terminology, i don't think you are ready for an assessment.

When I did my course I was told ring and spur - its terminology and the same problem with lectures teaching something different

Thanks for correcting me as I wont be right otherwise.

This is the other reason why Im doing my 17th Edition and Inspect/Test First to sort the problems I had previously out

Thanks again

if you've got BS7671 ( which you must have for assessment ) look under definitions. most of the correct terminology is there. page 23 on in the green version.

poster probably means new posts. to do tahat, pick the appropriate forum for your subject matter. click " post new thread" . enter a title, then your post. sssimples, sergei.

Thanks

AS I have explained before and is the hot topic in a few forums, these lectures who are teaching us are teaching the wrong thing at times, or they are putting their personal opinion across as regs when they clearly not!

I know now - not to be true - but I was told that all new circuits have to be "Ring" when thats a load of rubbish!

Im doing my 17th Edition first and my Inspect and Test so hopefully that will sort these big problems out - at worse I will have to do the installation again -- not what I want o do
All the courses Im doing now is in a different college with different lectures so hope that sorts it out!

I have these on order and waiting for them to arrive - expected to be here on Friday with a bit of luck - so much for Amazon Prime - been a week already and still not here

Thanks
