AS Tel and Marvo have said get some legal help and leave them to earn their fee's. This is not your fault but the insurer's may just see you as an easier target than taking on a company the size of protek. stick to your guns and everything will work out ok for you.

honest I know it is easy to say but do not speak to anyone other than your insurance if you as much as say I believe it possible I made a mistake (as any human can) they will tear you a new --- hole. You must say no way in hell I have changed hundreds of consumer units and never had a problem. Know where you are coming from but 4 years for the love of God could have been anything. Time to leave this behind, no one hurt, very doubtful your fault.

Well I think that if what is most worrying Murdoch - I know when I left that job everything was sound - anything could have happened since but the householder is unlikely to admit to that. So as I was the last one there and I supplied the cu then the buck stops with me. I suppose that is why PL insurance is so vital but it is still a situation I would not wish on anyone.
I will leave it to the insurers and hope one day this nightmare will be over. Thanks to everyone for your replies.

Goes back to a thought I had some years back CU should be fitted with provision to seal them,if you are with NICEIC get onto your rep I think you are entitled to legal advice as in you refer ALL correspondence to the legal team at NICEIC

Thought all you domestic guys took photos of your work?
If not.............why not?

If you have PL insurance what are you worried about? The insurance company will sort it all out for you.

After five years they are liable to tell the householder to go forth and multiply!

Last time I had a bust up involving my PL insurance, the claimant went to prison for fraud!

Nothing to do with electrical work, I’ve many strings to my bow. Unfortunate that this idiot pulled the wrong string.

As soon as I read your first post I knew it would be the Neutral bar - I have changed many boards in the last few years due to lose neutrals that start to spark away - normally the home owner gets some indication that there is a problem like fishy smell or flickering lights.
Never seen a full on fire caused by a CU.

I say I have done approx 12 in 18 months and they are normally boards that are approx 5-8 yrs old - normally a late 16th board or early 17th.

I really think the board manufacturers need to do something with the terminations with either double screw or cage clamp and screw so that there are 2 forms of mechanical retention.
