The wife asked me to help her sister out and install a new supply to her garden shed, but, after seeing the results of the work carried out by the sister-in-laws new boyfriend, I declined to help. Would you?

Looks like the inside of most of the boards I come across.

what happened to the cover?
The CU ('s) are in the cupboard under the stairs, where the coats and shoes are kept, and the SIL had been reaching in for quite some weeks to get shoes, coats etc, right past the bare busbars. She didn't know it was dangerous, but was careful not to touch anything. The cover was found under the shoes, but I couldn't find the plastic screws.

I couldn't leave it like that and had to fit the busbar cover and then tape the front cover over it. There wasn't any cover for the rewirable unit so that, along with the 2x T&E cables to the front room ring circuit was disconnected.

This was around 2 years ago, and from what I'm told, after heeding my advice, she has had the whole house rewired. Hopefully, he hasn't touched it since...but, you never know.

Came across this old board last year and it had been left with the cover off for years, only tradesmen know of the dangers the public have no fear of electricity,2 people on here yesterday one asking for advice on how to run cable/wire his shed and another saying they wanted to rewire their lighting upstairs as they were putting loft insulation in as existing junction box had 6 cables should they do the same, wonder how great that would all look. How many times are there fires and its electrical faults to blame in the press, what they forget to mention is that it was not done by an electrician in the first place.[ElectriciansForums.net] DIY Attempt

Maybe we ought to get the government to introduce some sort of control on domestic installation

Perhaps make the major installation work like rewires and board changes notifiable to the council before its done

We could even have a procedure for us sparks to become registered to become exempt from the notifiable work (if we can prove we are competent)
We could call it a competent person scheme or something on that lines

Of course we would need to be verified by some sort of assessment
If we also kept books relevent to the up to date regs etc,it would show we are on top of it all

This will surely put an end to such glaring examples of diy installations

Stretch arms and yawn loudly

Wow what a dream.or was that a nightmare lol

That really is an eye sore. Shame too because there is loads of space on the backboard if you cleared it up to make a really neat and tidy, professional looking job. Would love to get my hands on it. You can keep the remedials by the sound of it haha
