Sorry to say but there is very little skills left anyway! Recently when working on a site i was joking with a third year apprentice about my file he was using and he was unaware of the kind of file it was. He in fact googled it on his phone to see if i was sending him up when i told him what type it was as a file was just a file to him. Now this sums up all that is wrong with this trade at the moment in a rush to spew out professional competent electrician even basic hand skills are diluted.

It seems its become foul language in these times :yesnod:

You can imagine his face when i asked him what a dreadnought file was for and well his world collapsed when i pulled out my file card for cleaning my file.....lol Seriously though its not the guys fault its the level of his training which given the quality of his work was sadly lacking.

Well, hardly anybody wants to do an electrical or engineering apprenticeship nowadays. What will happen when our generation dies out? No skills left.
I live in a ex navy property, 1950s, with 16mm steel conduit, where would you find this in todays standards of quality? It is all about time and money, mainly money.

What will happen when our generation dies out?

"Rome died when the breed of Rome died out"

It is happening now all around us, last one to leave the formerly Great Britain please don't bother with the lights, they will already have gone out. :-)

There'll still be someone trying to post on here "My mate's having trouble with his lights, they're wired up correctly but the thing is should he have 240v somewhere??

No guesses as to where the 240 should be shoved.
