That's surprisingly easier than you think. All numbered, you trace the pairs back checking the wires as you go for integrity. Some of the time the wire would snap within the insulation and you'd privately punch the air and re- nibby! it. Some times you proved it as an underground fault and pass the job on to the ground monkeys! If you couldn't find a pair then you would either ask for a tone to be put on then use the receiver at your end to locate or put a tone before you left the telephone exchange - was a nice and easy job. Lots of customers, lots of jobs to do and lots of pole climbing. Doesn't make me wonder why I left nursing to train in electrics!

Looks like the best way to deal with it would be by using a giant comb. Perhaps a job for a hair stylist!

Yes and that would get rid of all those small plastic nit like things as well.

Gentleman decided he was going to save money by wiring his light fitting himself, turns on the RCD board we fitted a while ago and tells us the board is faulty...

Someone's attempt to wire a shower, not realizing he didn't get all the cable in the terminal. Or did he realize?!?!

Love the creativity of re-using terminals from old light fittings here:

Which was the incoming live feed on that pendant? By my reckoning the lamp had a 2 in 3 chance of being in series with another downstream lamp when the downstream one was turned on. Or was the feed the one with the N's. The former would have really puzzled the DIYer I reckon!

It was so long ago I took the image I don't remember.

1 cable was the feed into the light from the CCU
1 cable was the SW
1 cable was the feed out of the light to the next light

The DIYer just mixed and matched the cables and when it didn't work we got a call.
