If your neighbours have installed a 7Kw chargepoint and only "attempted" to meet the requiremets of BS7671 with that shoddy install I doubt they would have made the neccessary ENA application and got the DNO approval to install it

Hiya,

Our neighbour runs an unarmoured cable on our land where I park my car, buried about an inch under the soil. This is used to power their garage and EV charger.

They have said that they have attempted to comply with BS7671 as it is in a green plastic pipe that looks like a hosepipe. We are still concerned about the safety, particularly as I drive my car over it and it it outside our back gate, so also accessible to the public. I'm not an electrician so getting a bit confused, but everything I'm reading about BS7671 leads me to believe that this should be an SWA cable and buried deeper underground. Can anyone give me advice please?

I wonder what would happen if you had a bonfire close to or over the cable?

Can you ask them where they get this green plastic hose pipe I've got a swa to run in for a shed but that looks like it might be a cheaper option .sorry im just funning with you if it wasn't electricity and we were talking about something else I'd put a spade through it .don't do that though lol

Not that I would condone damaging this illegal cable, but it may get caught on a rope tied on the back of your car and pulled out of the ground and the charge point and the consumer unit, now that would be inconvenient.

That actually happened on a job .they were digging up the drive with a mini diger and pulled a swa cable for outside lights and sockets .it almost ripped the consumer unit off the wall
