Dual range cooker

Hi all

After a little help please, as just completed my NVQ and AM2 and not completely confident in everything as I have only done one domestic job in my 4 year apprenticeship.
My neighbour has purchased a dual range cooker (7.4kW) and has asked if I can fit. After having a look I found this and was wondering if I am correct in what I have said:
They have had an extension and have a sub board with a 40A Rcd main switch feeding 32a mcb-skts and 6a-lights. The mains cable feeding this is 6mm SWA 3core. Obviously the range cooker would need its separate circuit so the board would need to be changed as its only a 4way but the mains cable feed would also need to be changed to at least 10mm SWA?
The neighbours plan was to go straight from the board through a wall which the range will be backed onto and terminated direct. Can't find anything in regs saying you can't terminate direct rather than through a cooker switch but is it best practice to do this?

I am pretty sure you should not be using an MCB for isolation so you would need to install a DP switch in a place that is readily accessable.

Its been done to death about 5 times!! Just look back......

If you can back entry to the cooker, then you can back entry into a switch and back out again to the cooker.
Saves running a round the house looking for the MCB when the chip pan is on fire. (do people still use chip pans?)

Seems pointless upgrading both the board and the cable, you might just as well run a new cable for the cooker from the main Consumer unit.

No it can be used, but I think its changing with new yellow book in a few days/weeks.

A 60898 is suitable for isolation (on load). Emergency switching. Functional switching. Although the way the op suggests to install is NOT best practice IMO.

I assume 60898 as it is a 32a.

You are correct that an MCB can be used by anyone with any sense fits a DP isolator so when the RCD starts tripping the cooker can be isolated and elimated easily!

You mean't you need a double pole switch to isolate the cooker and that ain't strictly true.

I am going from memory now as my book is in the office but I would always install local isolation for any fixed equipment. Especially for one that gives off heat so that this can be isolated immediatly in the event of a fire.

What load is on the board/submain at the moment?
What is the rating of the OCPD for the submain?
What load are you adding to it? (I make it roughly 17A off the top of my head)

Problem there, is that a switch intended for emergency isolation would also have to satisfy all the requirements in the Regulations for emergency switches.
Most householders will not find such acceptable.
