Tel it's just that ridiculous panicking really bloody annoys me
"ahh someone might bring a disease let's close everything down so we can panic properly"
It's the kind of nonsense I'd expect from a 3 year old, we have more chance of stepping outside our own front doors and being hit by a bus than we do of any of the things which are being scaremongered about happening to us so why worry? Life's too bloody short and worrying never changed anything

Tell you what I can't believe. The suggestions that our borders should be shut thus closing down access to this country from others. Suppose one of your children was displaying symptoms after being away on holiday, I bet you wouldn't be bloody bleating on about closing borders then. Idiots.
Had a very similar discussion just a moment ago with my wife.
We have kit out West Africa due to be commissioned. As it happens, we have no guys there at the moment.
Supposing there had been, would we have left them there? Unable to return home? Potentially exposed to the virus. Not a cat in hell's chance.

Yeah, let's all panic and run round like headless chickens, let's paralyse international trade because some of those bugs might be transmissible on produce that we buy from these countries. Let's shut down all international transport because you never know who some of those nasty. dirty foreigners might have been rubbing up against.
The same hysteria was put about by the media previously and they were left with egg on their faces when it turned to naught. The fact of the matter is that if it comes here it comes here and there's sweet bugger all anyone can do about it because unless we behave like the village of Ely during the great plague we have no means of dealing with it effectively.
Now can we please stop panicking and get on with things.

Excellent post.

In six months time the outbreak will have subsided, there'll be a decrease of a similar magnitude. It's what usually happens with ebola, when my brother worked in Gabon about 7 years ago there was an outbreak there. It arose out of nowhere, killed a few hundred people in a relatively small area then disappeared again. It wasn't reported anywhere in the western media.
It will disappear again, the world will return to a state of complacency and a force fed diet of celebrity gossip but we'll still have the other problems you mentioned mate.
I hope you're right.
The rate at which outbreak has escalated and numbers of fatalities seems to have been significantly worse than any previously.

I remember catching some of those 'nasty' diseases when I was working in the far east but the doctor always gave me penicillin and that cured it.

Perhaps its just a programme of penicillin immunisation that we need .......

I find dousing any illness with alcohol and garlic works.

The incubation period is far too long for any testing at the airports to be of any use, plus due to the method of transmission then if one person on a plane was found to be potentially infected then that would mean everyone on board the plane would need to be quaranteened. There is really no way to prevent the spread of this disease without some form of mass vaccination programme, lets be honest if we prevented anyone entering our borders from one of the african countries, what prevents a potentially infected person coming here via another country,or someone from the sudan entering say france or germany, infecting someone there and then them entering the uk?The whole dynamic of this sitation is massive and the least helpful thing to do is panic,we've seen the same thing with sars, legionaires and some other nasty things in the past.
the only way to stop it is to completely close the borders in or out.

via boat/plane etc.

ebola has spread to people in italy, usa etc that is the only way to stop it fully

good remedy. a bit of chilli added to the mix helps as well. might have to sleep on your own for a couple of nights, though.

I wouldn't be poking fun at this dreadful disease if I were you.

70% + chance of death, no known cure, personal hygene at an all time low ......

The powers that be are talking it down but this has the capacity to kill millions...

All if would take is a sick person to sneeze on their hand, then use a dor handle and the next 20 -30 people could get infected, then they touch people ....
