Now, having had a thread attract a scaremongerer this week about the "myth" of extending a PME suppy to an outbuilding, I am very interested to hear about electrical myths others have heard of and would like to share. (This is a serious thread to collate myths about electrical can and cannot do's - no other myths are welcome!) Maybe we could compile a list of the top ten electrical myths at the end.

I will start then - You cannot export (extend) a TNCS supply to an outbuilding ..........or else!

So you're suggesting that if a manufacturer of subterranean terminal boxes sponsored this forum then they would comply?

Having said that, there are some types of boxes with the right type of resin compound filler that can be buried, but most that are in existence cannot with certainty of being compromised.

Where equipment is used outside of the main protective bonding zone then a 30mA RCD must be used at some point in the circuit....but that's not what you said

I just thought that I would bundle that one in, in case a 5DW got confused

Brown is the colour of soil, therefore the brown wire must be "earth" (was actually told this by a householder once)

Insulation resistance testing of RCD & RCBO’s is good for them. It will put a stop to all that nuisance tripping.

When testing Pyro always set the IR tester to 1000V

IR testing should be done by disconnecting all loads or shorting out all electronic equipment. Particularly useful when doing PIR/EICRs on high bay lighting.....

It depends on the colour of the soil.
Earthing SWA 3-core cables:
Dark soils use the black wire
Lighter soils use the grey wire
Medium soils use the brown wire
