Read some interesting items on here about electricians accepting @ ÂŁ7 an hour as a mate/improver and other sparky charging not a lot more.

Do you think it's time to start a revolution? Charge what we are worth as an industry? Or continue to be worth to Joe Public etc less than a check out girl at Tescos?

Heated debate welcome!

problem is though ..is as long as we keep having to put up with `electricians` from elseware just coming in then the problem will persist....take landlords for example...they dont want a sheet full of 1s n 2s......all they care about is that its good for continued service....even if it aint...
so who are they gonna hire:
you, who will do the job correctly (install/ECRs)....but will require adult levels of payment or
Yarrik...from slovakia.....he will just issue the paperwork after a quick glance around, no sampling and maybe the odd functional test....but it dont matter caus he will work for next to nowt.....landlord gets clean bill of health/cheap install....Yarrik gets paid....
until this cycle is broken, until the public stop accepting this tomfoolery that we need more and more foreign trades here just now......

You’ve only yourselves to blame. You let the scams run the show. There’s no “one voice.”

The only way things will improve is with a national register of “qualified” electricians with a required entry level.

The trade is saturated to the lowest common denominator and yep its the scams who have run it into the ground I must admit we have been sheltered in Scotland from part P as there is no legal obligation to join a scheme plus in my opinion Select and the SJIB have done OK but can see it getting worse as NICEIC are up here and are starting to contaminate our system

I have to agree with this 100% There are quite a few sparkys from the south moving into our areas for said stated reasons it was that or they would of had to pack it in. While i wouldn't wish any genuine spark out of work the fact that its pushing people north is somewhat of an eye opener. I can see the day that our job market gets saturated up here and things start to go pear shaped!

EU has gubbed it for everyone, you would prob get 7 quid working in McDs

Shot me down if you wish but come on who here is on 7 quid an hour really......no one that's who, it's just scare mongering.

So what that some foreigner for the EU has done a **** poor install for some dopy mug because its halve the price.....TBH as long as its not dangerous I'm happy with that because remedial work is a lot of what I do.

I know times are tough but that's the world we live in, dooms day Sayers don't help.

another RCD...saves the day...

When you have cowboys doing poor work it lowers the bar for everyone. The electrical systems and regulations in this country have been regarded as some of the best in the world yet we continue to let cowboys to operate in almost impunity. Things have got to change before it's too late! Also while its not ÂŁ7 i know sparks who are genuinely on around ÂŁ9 which is nowhere near SJIB/JIB rates. It's rather sad to see people in that situation!
