Discuss Emergenct Stop Switch wiring in the Electrical Wiring, Theories and Regulations area at ElectriciansForums.net

Have an electric motor running a small pump, it is wired through a 13a standard plug with rcd. Need to fit an emergenct stop switch on the actual machine.

Got a switch with 1 no connection and 1 nc connection with earth through the mounting hole. Can someone explain how i need to wire this up???

Many thanks

What power rating is this motor?

DW, firstly I did not give him any info on how to do it, I simply pointed out that this is a simple thing to do IF he was a qualified spark...which clearly he is not, thus i would then agree with your comment that clearly it is not simple..

However to answer the comments of the OP...double pole key locking E-Stop so that when it is operated it breaks the supply on both poles but requires a key to re-energise. Perfectly compliant for such a small device and does not need fancy and potentially confusing (for the poster) control wiring.
If you read my post I expressed MAY NEED - IF IT APPLIES at no point did I say will need .... interesting your answer when you have absolutely no info regarding the set-up, why the E-Stop is been installed in the first place, what is the motor pumping i.e. water (HOT!), chemicals etc etc A key operated system although maybe an option it my be unsuitable for various reasons yet il re-iterate the OP hasn't provided the info so you can't say its a simple task (which it may be).... and from what I have heard on here colleges no longer teach control systems and wiring so the electrician may be fully competent in his own field but clueless in this one that doesn't make him a moron.

just cut the cable. a separate action of applying choc block and tape is required to restart the motor, so it's safe. cable cutters shown below, take your pick::

If you think those are picks then think again bother - Take your axe ! would be better, then again, you might need a riff to get you through :)

I gather someones giving out the pop corn ?

You really are over thinking this DW, you asked a question (regarding the E-stop I would use) and I gave you an answer FFS. I would not install an E-Stop on that pump at all because it is on a frigging plug which is no way to install any item of fixed equipment in my humble opinion, so I don't actually care if it's pumping water or sewage, it's the OP's problem not your and mine, I would walk away unless the pump was installed properly.

I've set my lighting to movie mode, my surround sound is set to epic, the recliners are back and to hell with the popcorn! I'm on the Galaxy Minstrels!!!!

Mine's a Coke Zero, the same great Coke taste but without the calories I'll have you all know!

Lol.

Well I want to know what's wrong with putting a plug on a 'portable' pump?

Zero coke with Galaxy minstrels !!!!..............oh my you need to read the healthy reg book mate:)

Sorry guys pub calling quiz night the matinee has shut up early ;)

Noooooooooooooooo what are we gonna do:)

Without some information from the OP you’re all wasting time and effort. There again, arguing about wild guesses is getting to be the norm around here.

It could be a slave switch where you would have a L in and a common wire out to a master switch.
