Meter tails will not be extended ( wouldn do tha) ...they will be shortened, ( brought closer to main income )

Regulation 543.3.3 concerns connections and joints being accessible for inspection in protective conductors.

There is no regulations at all mentioning joints or not having joints in section 544 for bonding conductors.

I agree it is good practice to have a continuous conductor for bonding/earthing but sometimes that is not possible.

Do you know what Malc, after i posted that i remembered that there used to be something in the yellow OSG that stated bonding conductors must be continuous through out their length (or something like that). When bs7671 2008 came out, this was no longer the case as i could not find it anywhere.

Still, crimp every time for me.

i didnt mean extened meter tails, i meant how long will they be from cutout to cu if you are moving it 5 metres??
i take it you are aware of recommended max lengths for tails??

the old installation is aprrox 3 meters beyond front door ( main cut out is located outside.....in cabinet....next to front door).

When moved ....it will be brought above the front door , and therefore tails will bne shortened ....not extended

Max legnth for tails.....please advise for future reference . MANY THANKS

Jas don't the GN 8 still have something on continuous conductors for bonding/earthing, I've not got mine out here so can't look it up.

Just sat ...and passed the 2391 visual inspection practical assesment.....i was reqiured to find 14 visual electrical faults with a mock up installation......the bonding not being continious was one of them .....

If it helps at all ?

DNO normally stipulates 3M max from cutout fuse.

supplier normally advises max length, usually 3 metres.

Wasn't that the connection at the BS 951 on a 2391-10 Test Rig ? It normally as a cable from the MET to one pipe, and then another cable from the BS 951 to the other pipe, and they are 2 different cables, so not a joint.

When they say continuous, I think that's when you are using the same cable to bond water and gas i.e one continuous run with a section of the insulation removed (without cutting the cable) to connect to a clamp part way down the cable.

So if it is disconnected at the first clamp the other one is still bonded.
