I agree engineer 54 right tool job done , i have to admit ive not used crimps much recently the speed wagos and a like make the job , not had one fail , i did read on some manufacturer spec that crimps should only be used on stranded cable .

Another way for extending cables i have found if you use single compartment dado trunking keep the off cuts brilliant for using as trunking to low CDU's then you can crimp or wago inside the trunking makes the job look realy neat too

Crimping is considered a permanent joint in the regs, if you can twist it and it comes apart you need to review your crimping procedure and book on a 5 day crimping course for ÂŁ1200+VAT :shocked3: - just kidding if done right will not come apart.

OP - here's a link to some heatshrink -

I use a Wickes heat gun I have had for about 20 years. It works fine. Be careful near PVC cables, etc though.

There are some fancy heat shrinkable crimps even with the heatshrink on (in case you forget to thread ti on BEFORE you crimp both ends)

Hope the job goes well.

or, if you've still got a bit of wall space where the CU was originally, an adaptable DIN rail box with DIN rail terminals. the advantage here is that you can still access the joints for testing/fault finding. etc. Nickblake posted a pic of 1 he'd done, a few weeks ago.
