Hi all,

Need to pick your brains, if I can.

Doing a CU change - New Wylex dual RCD for an old 4-way rewirable.

Existing CU has a ring final, lighting, cooker and shower - so 5 x T&E entering CU.

The new CU is being fitted approx 0.5 meters away from the old one - and the cables won't reach:)

What's the best (neatest) way of extending the circuits to the new CU - I want to use this job for

my assessment.

I was thinking of an adaptable/junction box, situated where the old CU is sitting now, but this

would have to have at least 15 way available to extend each T&E.

Any ideas gratefully received.

Cheers

hi WayneL, allthough its not ideal to extend cables i understand that sometimes it must be done, so what i tend to do is crimp them, then tape them up individualy. I tend to use singles then, rather than F.T.E.
hope this helps,
Rizla

Thanks chaps,

I'm tending to lean away from crimping as it's all going to be visible, not far from the new CU -

could look messy.

Have you got a link, Len, I've had a look around on the net, but it's hard to tell what will be

suitable without having a good look at it.

Thanks again.:)

put them in a bit of 2"x2" trunking going to your board.
the box and din rail does sound a class idea tho.
just make one your self, plastic adaptor box and fix a bit of din rail in it.

One of these....

With this screwed inside....

And these fixed onto it....

You can get them in a range of sizes with blanks and stop ends, even green and yellow ones for the earths.

just a thought, but if you are going to put an adaptable box where the old CU was then why move the position of it?
and isnt a dual rcd board a bit OTT for 5 circuits?

Well it's that or a 6-way with RCBOs, 15 quid for a 6 way board and incomer, just under twenty quid each for decent RCBOs, that's 110 before we start, you can get good 60-70 quid deals on dual boards and plenty of spare ways.... I'd go with the 17th board every time, until the price of RCBOs come down, that is.
