Just come across this

The Press Association: Bid to recruit female electricians

to try and encourage more females to train as an electrician. I think this is great (as Im a woman) and I know another training provider did this a few years ago up north to encourage women in this sector. I do wish they do it in my area though as I would love to train as an electrician but can I get onto any apprenticeships? Nope! Im not saying the reason I dont get on to them because of my sex (its prob because Im not good enough lol) but Im glad to see companies trying to get women into the industry.

What do you qualified electricians think about women in the "male industry" and businesses trying to get more women involved?

did you get my message about being too expensive?

apparantly if I can't fix it there and then I shouldn't charge the callout charge even though the reason I can't fix it is a ZS on a cooker circuit consisting of BS1361 30A reading 1.17 way over the maximum 0.92. When explained off to board tightened etc still no change. Had a look around no bonding to any incoming services explained about the requirements of bonding and correct size earth (16mm incoming with a 6mm main earth) I was advised that as the word electrician should be changed to banker because we seem to be able to print money.

Hey, just reading through this thread and the SWA comment made me smile :) Being a girl and having worked on many large sites doing temporaries for a few years I can honestly say I much prefer it to doing Domestic work, which I find very boring. Yes its bloody heavy work pulling in armoureds in the trenches to feed the site or cranes or in tower blocks of flats or even lugging 10KVa transformers up the stairs when the crane refuses to lift them. Glanding 185mm takes patience but its all possible! I think many people are surprised when they see me doing it, they often offer to help and will attempt to pick up the other side of the tranny to help walk it down the stairs, which is often more dangerous than good as they are simply not used to carrying that amount of weight! Lol

Excellent thread, only ever worked with 2 Female Sparks. 1 was absolutely C**P but the other 1 by god she was a worker & had a brilliant sense of humour (had to workingwith us lot) If a woman wants to be a Spark & is willing to work then good luck to her. My Daughter has been out on site with me a few times & she's only too happy to go into attics etc, not too fussed on slurry pits though. But that's an aquired taste lol.
