hi guys, got a fire alarm system to do in a cafe with flats above it, the owner is wondering is it possible to have a means of turning alarm off in both flats and cafe, because if i put panel in cafe and for example a flat resident burns their toast during closed cafe hours, its gonna cause a problem.
Im sure i worked on a job years ago where there were two panels interlinked to create the above scenario, but wondering if its still do-able, and how many cores would i need between the two as an interlink. Thanks in advance.

fit heat rise detectors in the flats or you'll get false alarms just with tenants puffing away on ther funny smokes.

ive got the spec from the authority, no mention of it in there, its just an extra that the client thought might be useful to save 'nuisance calls' every time a resident accidentally sets it off.
The reason I'm asking here is because other electricians who may work in the fire alarm field may be able to help or advise me on something I haven't come across before but they may well have, which I believe is the whole idea of these forums.

Presume the spec has requested that the flats are interlinked into cafe fire alarm for Life protection. Firstly disabling the flats during any hours will not be accepted here, The owner has a duty of care to protect his tennants.
There is no reason why a professional fire alarm system will false alarm when making toast, If the toaster is on fire then thats another issue. If a full system is fitted using optical smokes, such as Opollo S65 or Hochiki covering major open circulation areas and Heat detection in cafe and domestic kitchen areas, I cannot see there being any problem. If the system is designed and installed correctly, and thaught to cafe kitchen areas is taken into account should be a happy system for the next 10 years.

Have you got a risk assessment done? Whats it say?

If its any help, we are talking abaut commercial and domestic premises, so Part 1 cafe and Part 6 flats....It will cheaper to just install on full system, but there is nothing stopping you installing a part 1 system in the cafe and installing linked wired acio detection into the flats, Aico have i/o units which will connected into any panel

Appologies, i think my 3 ish hours sleep from last night is doing the talking tonight, best if you ignore my posts i think. Off to bed i go then.

Impossible to answer without correct info - layout drawings etc i'd suggest talking to a manufacturer that will do the design for you ? But if its similar to blocks of flats with a communal area then maybe pt1 detection system in café and pt1 sounders in flats with heat detector just inside flat door and pt 6 system in each flat ?

I know the feeling, sleep is something I not getting to much of...lol...All comments were still constructive.
But the be all and end all is that all important assessment form the local Aurthorty...they have the last say, but they are good guys, we have a good working relationship with most of the councils...
