thanks tazz, helpful info, the spec is asking for a part 1 system throughout the building, plus an additional part 6 system in the flats (i have diagrams of where each device is required) Will just go with the one panel in cafe I think for the part 1 system, although I'm almost certain I've seen a system with a second remote panel on the same system it is clearly not common practice. thanks again

You might have. You can have repeater panel set-ups or interlinked panels. I once worked on a two part but physically adjoined building. The two panels were set up so each side could fully control their own system/zones, but never cancel an alarm that had originated from the other panel.
 
TBS, not a problem, you can Bi-link panels together, normal practice fo ajoining buildings, but in your project, would suggest keeping cost down, with good EN control panel and detection, like Apollo....and interface wired Acio mains smokes into a seperate zone on the control panel, this will show the activation is from fats. Aico do a input, and an output unit, so the system will work Bi direction, sounding aicos if fire is in cafe, and cafe with zone indication, if activation is from flats.
