Hi All,

i now have a lad that i have trained up for fitting the double pole isolators so that you can safely isolate wen doing anything on the consumer unit. he will safely remove the bullet, fit the isolator and re-seal the service head.

We are located in Swillington, leeds so i am sure we could come up with a rate if any of you were wanting them fitting
we cover, leeds Barnsley and Rotherham daily.

you can PM me or contact Danny or Neil on 0113 276 5151

thanks

jokes on youPersonally I think ALOT of h&s is. Coming in with a full blown space suit to pull a 230v fuse is very over the top

i have to wear a full harness with clips just to go up a ladder.and before ive done the brick under one side to make it straight like many have, its no joke now h&s comes before everthing, the things weve done before would end up in a sacking now,it adds time to the job but at least my kids see me at the end of a days work...

I think you're just here to argue with me am. Your right h&s is a good thing but it's also sometimes very, very over the top!

no you said h&s was a joke,i said its the main thing these days, yes it can be ott,but its the most important thing today, zero harm, employ it if you want to expand your business..youngin..

Health and safety is one of the biggest dangers present in our society today
It has become so all encompassing and intrusive that it has virtually destroyed self preservation instincts, and has been hitched to the blame culture society that infests all of society
We have gone from the one extreem of 12 and 13 year old children down the mines, getting killed and injured, with no regard given,to the opposite extreem where personal freedom and self survival has been handed over to desk jokeys

It angers me no end that common sense can be thrown aside to this modern frankentstein creature
By all means make life less hazardous, but do not kill the very soul of human exploration and calculated risk in the name of protection, protection that can and does pose bigger risk than not having it

A very well articulated arguement there Des.

Aside from the Advertising side of post ( admins will deal with this) The whole posting brings my wee mind into overtime along the lines of
1 insurance as if OP WORKS for SnS then he is covered whilst doing work for SnS possibly not whild doing work for SnM
2 SnS and other DNOs have an agreed published route to go down for isolator fitting, fuse removal
3 If OP is doing this outside normal SNS field he is then comiting the offence by breaking seals and interfeering as DNO havent autherised him to do this also YOU the contractor who requested work MAY also be libel for prosecution
4 VAT man ect Im not up on tax ect but Im sure there may be some implication there
5 If the work isnt being done "on behalf of" the DNO then where are isolators , seals coming from this may ammounbt to theft
6 THE HnS Issue brought up by Electroserve Personaly I HAVE seen what can happen when a "230v" fuse is put inserted in an incorrect manner and its not a prety sight when a work college is screaming about not being able to see anything and his neck, face is all burnt ( due to a nifty wee cable routed out the back of cable head to avoid payment) we HAD autherisation from S.P. attended course BUT it didnt cover things like the connection that was found in this head Cable Heads are daangerous things and I for 1 am sick of guys on here advising " just go for it!"
7 Its a great Idea OP and one that I think should be run by SJIB/JIB NICEIC ect but the DNOs have mnet about it and decided not to go with it
Appoligies for the rant guys

As far as H&S goes well here is my feelings after 36 years we have come a long way but just like registration companies and the so called pros are taking over dictating what you should do why because this is a self serving money machine but also remember we need to keep on top f safety because I am noticing lets just say our eastern european cousins who visit us time to time try and bring their standards with them ie non at all.

And as for DP isolators as I have said before this can be resolved by quite simpley an electrician registering with a DNO and applying for a numbered plastic seal when they are about to do the job where the DNO can do a spot check if and when required so if you apply for a seal to do a job on the 15th and they spot check the job on the 17th with the isolator fitted but no seal then you get fined easy peasy and before some clown says hold on what if they use this to steal electricity well me thinks the DNO would smell a rat as they have comprehensive data on the consumption at the property

Personally I think that the H&S are doing a good job. OK some of the things can be over the top and some of the things you here on the news about H&S are made up just to wind us up. It may seem that 'personal freedom and self survival has been handed over to desk jokeys' but the problem is that there are people out there with not a lot of common sense, and if something goes wrong then that person will be suing the company for not providing propper equipment. Im not getting at you DES 56.

Quite agree Mogga one of the most squeaky bum times I ever had was not a head but old DB board that had a 100amp fuse in it and a friend tried to pull it and it disintergrated in his hand, he still as the web fingers, and so like you pulling a DNO fuse ordinarily is not something I think can be done lightly, but old Cast types can be a nightmare.

I am starting to think some people come on here just to start an argument. Health and safety is there, whether we like it or not. It is your choice if you want to disregard it but at the same time although overkill sometimes, it is proven to save lives. Another thing, calling people 'old man' is just disrespectful and I assume your trying to get a rise. Let's try to keep on subject people and try to act like professionals, if I want to see a load of people moaning I will watch eastenders.

To start an argument
A forum works well if there are debates ( arguments) sometimes you are in the majority and sometimes in the minority with your views, sometimes right and sometimes wrong, argument enriches the debates

Health and safety is there, whether we like it or not.
Agreed

It is your choice if you want to disregard it
Dis agree, there is no avenue for personal responsibility

at the same time although overkill sometimes
You better believe it

it is proven to save lives
It may well have,it also removes the responsibility for the individual to look out for his own well being and may very well cause un necessary danger, because that person is too reliant on procedures which have been handed on a plate, and restricts that personal responsibility

My opinion may be right, it may be wrong,it may be shared ,it may be I am in a very small minority, but its a veiw that should be expressed and countered by others with other views, thats debate democracy, free thinking, whatever tag you care to put to it

Personal slanging because of a veiw is wrong, but by saying things shouldn't have differing opinions because they contradict your own, is as bad as any posts that use personal critisism

There is obviously room for basic Health and safety legistlation and advise, but it has become a monster that has been out of control for quite a long period

Wanna argue about that
