Hi all ,been speaking to a sparky mate of mine today whos been out of work for a bit so he signed on.
And he's been given £300 by job centre to help him back into work,he has to provide reciepts for the stuff he's getting.
But he has had 17th edition exam paid for
17th IEE wiring regs
17th OSG
and passport to safety exam paid for!
So if any of you guys are struggling for a few week it may be worth signing on.
He signed on fri and was given the money the following wed!

I am on the dole and are currently doing 17th ED and Part P through my Job Centre at a local college. I am very happy, college is excellent, treating us the same as paidup students. Got brandnew Regs for free to keep. Transport to and from college is paid, exam fees etc. I think thats brilliant. Everybody is shooting Gordon and his team down, but i dont agree.
I even stopped smoking on the NHS , free patches, inhalers etc. Thanks Gordon !

I was self-employed and stopped working because there wasn't any work to do.
The Jobcentre said I could get funding at the advisor's discression, which was basically if I had a job offer or if I had been out of work for over 6 months, and in any case they probably wouldn't pay £205 for 2382 because it's too much money to spend on one person. One advisor even called me 'selfish'.

I sent a letter of complaint to the jobcentre manager pointing out that they seem happy to pay for 20 people to go on a CV writing course when i was the only person that turned up and I only went to get me out of the house, but they don't seem to want to give a chance to someone who actually wants to get back to work.

The Jobcentre manager called me back and was quite empathetic because her husband is a sparks, but she basically just said I needed to have a job offer before they would help me get a job.

The help you receive to get back into work seems to depend on which Jobcentre you sign at, or as the press would call it 'a postcode lottery'.

Scotland dont know if England has a similar thing I signed on the other week due to redundancy Got a pack for ILA (individual learning account) £200 for a course through an Approved training center but they are quoting 225+vat to 385+vat for 17th also taking 6 nights or 3 part time days Select(scottish ECA) do a course for £165 inc vat and after 6 months you get 25% back through the charritable training trust select have centers all over the place mines booked for Edinburgh I gather I even get a nice lunch included

Where will I stand then?

Signed off a few months ago to take up a 6 month contract, in the full knowledge that I'd have to sign back on again if I didn't find another job before this one finishes. I've got a couple of months left. Will finish my 2330 in June and can't find any electrical work (I'm doing non-electrical labouring at the minute). Any ideas if I'd qualify? Not being made redundant, but then not being sacked either. It'll just be the end of a fixed-term contract.

possibly differs are to are best bet is ASK the jobcenter as some seem to be classed as"Advisors discretionary payment" Im assuming if the advisor likes you you may have a chance but if u call them lazy sods n ask if they have experiance in the REAL world you get hee haw

I got made redundant about a month ago now and I am getting cheesed off sitting around the house when I came across this thread and thought it would be a good idea if I could get the Dole to pay for my 2391 course and give me something to do while looking for a job , Anyway it turns out that in Wales you can get up to £2500 towards educational course from a government body called REACT , in Scotland you can get up tp £500 per year for further education from a government body by means of an Individual Learning Account but guess what if you are in the minority in this country and live in England you can go and whistle :( Roll on the revolution brothers!

couldnt agree more can guarantee u wouldnt have got this help with the cons
i was in the same position last august signed on for the first time in 15 years.
i was a warehouse manager and after being set up for a fall by some jumped up25 yr old lil **** of an accounts manager whod been put in charge of the company temporarily due to management changes who figured he could get rid of me and employ a min wage fork lift driver save himself 500 quid a month

was going to enroll on the electrical course anyway been looking to get back in the trade 4 a while but with losing my job didnt think i could afford it anymore and was thoroughly depressed.

after a coulpe of times signing on they asked if i was interested in any training and told them abouut the course not really thinking they would do anything as id only recently signed on and had been affectively sacked.
they immediately told me to go enroll on the evening course so i could still look for work and continue to claim if ness and all fees would be waved and certain expenses would be offered. wahoo`
found some work since although not full time and finish my nvq2 in june :)

my dad has always been a staunch conservative but has changed his mind since being made redundant hes in his late 50s and felt chukd on the scrapheap but says hes had nothing but offers of help and support not all of it monetary cos he in a decent position that way but through job groups and offers of training. and payment breaks in his mortgage backed by the gov. now doin well working with a plumbing company part time and other bits and pieces paintinng and dec while on a course.

he was hit by the recession in the 90s under the cons and says he was basically told to stop winging and take it on the chin while the company director for who he was working for walked away with a fat payout felt left to it and only through help of friends and family kept his home.

thnik about wot u do tomorrow as not liking the leader of a party doesnt change the core values of that party the recession is a worldwide phenomina and how it has been handled and will be handled not the fact there is one should be where your thoughts lie.

apologies if that got political and will prob get my knuckles wrapped

on a lighter note the last time i was in the jobc there was a baseball cap wearing lil 20 somthng gob****e with his slapper gf and kid waiting for him clearly a life doley across the room getting louder and louder
.with his 50yr + women advisor who i had been with b4 and was a lovely woman.
he started banging on the desk and launched across the desk trying to grab her at which point i jumped up to go over only to see her pick up a huge black binder and proceed to smak him repeatedly round the head with it. :D
he kaked himself lol his face was absolutely priceless :D

apologies for the long post well bored with no work this week:(

Just a quick update , I have just found out that there is a budget of 10 million pounds of European money available to get people back to work though training this money is available through the " response to redundancy " programme and is available to you even before your redundancy kicks in , in other words as soon as you are aware that you will be losing your job you can apply for funding to retrain in any type of industry not just your own so to that end I am starting my 2391 in the hope that it will increase my chance of employment if not it will at least keep my brain occupied for a short time. The strangest thing about this fund is that nobdy will admit to its existance at the job centre whether they are ignorant to it or just couldnt be arsed to find out about it I dont know but if you do find yourself in my position dig your heels in until they come across after all it is your money!!
