Rite I gota do a garage supply. I spoke to an electrician who is part p qualified and he said for me to cut the main tails, put henley blocks in and put up a seperate fuseboard for the garage supply. This way the part p certificate is only for the garage supply and not the house. Is this true? Also to get the part p certificate can I put a plastic fuseboard up with plastic trunking and conduit around for lighting and power? Thanks guys.

Your friend seems to be making a mountain out of a molehill. As Ezzzekiel says use a spare way on existing CU to garage. Nothing wrong with plastic CU in garage. Good luck with your assessment.

So how would I terminate an armoured into a fuseboard in the house? Also am I rite in saying that if I put an rcbo in the house I can put an ordinary main switch in the garage?

Terminate in a metal adaptable box adjacent to the db and T/E out of that into the db....Rcbo in db,main switch in garage.

Rite I just spoke to the builder, he wants me to put a garage unit up from screwfix. Can I run conduit out of it or does it only have entry holes for twin and earth? Also he doesn't want trunking going along the length of the garage he wants me to clip it, will this still meet part p? Oh and he wants the drops done in conduit does this have to be metal or is plastic ok? And finally he wants me to drill through the beams in the ceiling to link the light fittings, does this meet part p? Sorry for all the questions its just I want to do a really good job.

A mate of mine is doing the part p. Basically I am a qualified electrician but have been out of the game for a while doing wiring in substations so I'm not up to scratch with part p or 17th edition.

and your asking how to terminate a swa into a cu

use a 20mm holesaw to gain outlets for your conduit adapters, clipping direct is not a problem so long as there is no risk of impact, i'd use plastic conduit for the drops, the joist drill holes need to be through the midde [depthwise] and/or over 2" from the face,

A bit confussed ,, on an earlier post you said you were working for a company outside london and had 2 years experience, now you say you have been out the business for a while, how long is a while because your only 24, Why is the builder telling you what to do , you are the qualified electrician not him, and how comes you didnt learn how to make off an armoured when you did your training,, I think that electricity to sheds is quiet a dangerous thing if installed wrong and you seem to be struggling with the basics, maybe a refreshher course maybe needed

I know how to make an armoured off, I one most of my apprenticeship doing industrial wiring so it was all big armoureds into panels. I didnt do alot of domestic. As soon as I came out of my time two and a half years ago I went straight onto wiring substations so I havent done much domestic work atall. But I want to start now so Im just making sure everything I do is right.

You need to learn to walk before you can run.
Get upto to speed on the 17th edition.loads of courses available,
Go do your 2391 if you haven't already got it because if the Part P scheme provider starts asking you easy questions and you don't have a clue, you're only wasting your money mate.

I'm just finishing a job off which will be submitted to Napit to join their scheme.
I'm j.i.b approved,2391 etc etc and i'm still bricking it.

Anybody agree?

Relating to the Part P application,Can i get someone who is already part of a scheme to come and sign off my job as a way of getting round notifying building control (they were involved in the various stages of construction, honest guv) or does the assessor want you to submit this as your first job...

Can anyone shed some light on this please..............
