Do we have any female electricians on the boards?

Not seen a fully qualified one yet BUT way back in the 80's we did have a female apprentice in a contracting outfit I worked for in north lanarkshire in scotland. I left before she got out of her time but from what I saw and when I had her working with me she was at least a year ahead of her peers. I suppose it is the old adage that someone away from the "norm" actually has to do "better" just to pass. I would bet that lass did turn into a very good sparky.
As a little aside my go to mechanic is my sister in law. What she doesn't know about cars is just not worth knowing....Very thorough, attention to detail, bloody strong and has actually been "headhunted" 3 times in the last 15 years that I know of. Once again a very talented female in a male dominated industry. She looks as sweet as candy...but she can and does give as good as she gets when the "banter" starts.

I may have just been lucky, but so far (at work) have only come across neutral or positive attitudes towards women in this industry, after initial bouts of surprise, occasional genuine shock and a lot of probing of my decision to become an electrician I always get a "good for you" type response, with the odd bit of banter!

and a fellow scouser also.! good for you.gal.

i have nothing against women in the trade, per se, but from my personal experience, i've never seen one that can cope with it. i'm sure there's female sparks out there that can. it's just that the only ones i've met are too far up their own feminist arses. ( no disrespect to any competent female sparks/engineers/train drivers/lineswomen/etc.).
I'm into my 6th year of trading now. Super busy, sometimes I pull my hair out from 12-14 hour days, 6 days a week but wouldn't say I can't cope. Unless getting behind on invoicing counts

Tricky to add to a topic of this nature.without either sounding condescending,or a dinosaur...

Never glaringly notice a persons gender/colour/religion/etc,guess it's a legacy of growing up with gypsies, showmen and travellers - usually folk are either a benefit or a liability, further descriptions are superfluous.

I can readily appreciate the extra difficulties encountered,as a female,in the trades.I have worked in many countries where the conversation we are having here, would not happen...

I reckon a lot of girls, who would make excellent sparks, just bypass the hassle, and go straight to fixing other systems of connective interest...training as surgeons, consultants and many other medical experts.

In these positions, many of the whinging, narrow minded tradee fossils, appear on a table, under their expertise, and utter not a word of derision or "site-banter".

The one single required item, for success in electrical work, problem solving and people skills,is what every human possesses, regardless of sex/colour/race...a brain. This allows us to overcome anything else,if we allow it.
