Personally I think A CW SWA gland looks a lot better in a finished job without the shroud than they do with it, especially when there are 8 RGM glands in a row next to it, but does any one know of any reason why not fitting the shroud would be a problem?
The gland is indoors in a dry and heated space so no worries about environmental considerations, and even if there were I think the shroud only ever serves to trap moisture around the gland which achieves a high IP rating on its own.

Obviously the shroud is useful for some people if they are not very good at actually fitting the gland properly, but I like to think I'm reasonably capable of fitting an SWA gland properly

Here's the work in progress, without a shroud

Nice job Dave. You'll be busy with the brasso putting that finish on it though... :D

I'm in two minds about that at the moment, it'll fit in better with the colour of wood once it's tarnished a bit, but then it'll stand out better if I do wax it.

I prefer heritage wax for putting a finish on metal to something abrasive like brasso.

I've never been taught how to work with MICC and never been in the position to learn but would love too. I think it looks great, a lot more time and skill involved as oppose to mini trunking/clipped direct twin and earth everywhere. I bet you can't wait to show the assessor for your annual inspection haha

There's not a massive time difference in installing it versus clipping T&E I don't think. But then the kind of work I do is rarely under any sort of time pressure, I have customers who value quality over quantity so they pay a rate that allows me to take time over jobs.

Lucky you ! I have customers who know they'll get a very high quality job but still want to pay bu##er all. Thankfully there's not too many like that though. :)

How does it cause a hygroscopic effect? (I assume you meant to say hygroscopic?)
Being hygroscopic is a property of a material and not something I have can be caused by exposure to water

No need to try belittling me mr big man. HYGROSCOPIC effects can cause certain material to warp if it's exposed to moisture. I'm a new member mate but not a ********. Treat members with respect.
