Discuss Good Morning Thread - Come say good morning, tell us what you've got on today. :) in the The Electrical Exchange area at ElectriciansForums.net

We have this thread on TilersForums.com and it's just been restarted because the old thread had 20,000 replies and 500,000 views. And there were 700 pages. Started to lag a bit on slow connections.

I think we had a bash of this before, but I can't find the thread, so thought I'd start another one off.

If you have time in the mornings, come post in the thread before you head off to work, let us know what you've got on and what the weather is like in your area etc. Anything at all is fine. :)

Posts and likes get counted towards your total stats in this thread.

So GOOOD MORNING PEOPLE - WEATHER IS NICE TODAY IN STOKE. I'M THANKFUL IT'S FRIDAY, HAD A RUBBISH WEEK. THANK GOD IT'S OVER.

Her biggest sister got the tickets for her Xmas… but it was online, and she got some pre-sale notifications and got in quick.

The tickets are “non transferable” and only available online when bought, only available to view on the ticketing app on the phone… but can be changed later on… like maybe 3 weeks before the event… all to try and stop the touts.

Even buying more than one ticket… the “lead booker” has to attend…
If it couldn’t have been transferred, then she would have had to sign into her sisters account to view them.

She’s at home napping on the sofa wearing her Swifty sweat shirt and gripping her Swifty tote bag….
Spent more money on the merchandise than on the tickets themselves.
Sounds great, I would be doing the same!!

I am quite excited as Starlight Express opened at the weekend in a brand new theatre and set, I have got tickets for November right at the front, the skaters (trains) come out and skate all around you. I saw it when I was young and loved it so much. I was wondering if @Rockingit worked on the theatre in Wembley. My step mum and I are going back to London for a few days in November and we are seeing that and Back to the Future. Am obsessed with BTTF so I am interested in how they have turned it into a musical..

No other news from HQ this morning as yet, apart from it is freezing and the heating is on! I hate having the heating on at the best of times, but Dan can't be in the cold since his lung op.

I was asked this morning to disconnect a cooker in an old house…. Looks like they’re going to be decorating… so I gave the place a quick unofficial visual inspection….

How old is this?

I’m guessing old cast iron box behind, conduit in wall… would have been an old 15A at one time.

Checked behind a switch, and same thing…at least it’s been rewired with t&e at some point… cpc in the lighting, and the adaptor bracket to fit a newer switch plate.

CU is the old fuse replacement circuit breakers with the white button. Should be enough room to update to full RCBO…

I then found this interesting thing… thought it was an old thermostat….

Very high up on the wall… and I was really puzzled as to how it worked… as there only seems to be a 2 core bell wire coming from it on the surface….

It wasn’t a thermostat.

It’s a simple thermometer…. Stuck to the front of a ding dong doorbell chime box.

Hopefully I get a bit of work out of this… the house needs some serious renovation before any further decoration… Looks like it’s been an old man on his own.

Found in the kitchen, an old notebook marked RAF and the name “Mosquito Jock”

Update on yesterday’s discoveries.

The owner is just preparing it for sale… doesn’t want to spend money on it…. Just wanted the old cooker away.

If I had the money just now… and it was in a closer location to where I am… I might give it a punt.
The joined on semi detached has had a loft conversion… so there’s plenty scope for changes.

That looks like it does need some expert work rewiring and more! It will give someone a project for a fair while I would have thought. How old is the actual house?

Been super busy past few days, and the heating has gone back on too. Not my choice, I am one of those people who is roasting all the time!

Age…. Very old to be the old style boxes… 1930’s or 40’s maybe?? That’s before even my time…
We need an old boy to tell us… where has Tel The Scouser gone now?

Every wall is solid brick. So wouldn’t be easy running in new sockets… and concrete floor, so everything from above.
Even the cooker I disconnected… the cable was run surface in metal conduit to the switch… so was an afterthought, not original.
Some form of fuel tank in the garden to a boiler… wet radiators and pipework ran low level around the external walls just on the skirting boards…

Originally there just would have been a coal fire, but chimney blocked up now.

If the notepad I found was the owners… I guess the fella must have been in the house for decades.

Nothing wrong with being in a house for decades, we have been in our current house for forty years and have no plans to move.
Oh yes… of course not…
I should have said in the house for decades and not done much to the house…. But then I realised.. rewired at some point… heating pit in… double glazed etc.

My own parents house is as old as me, and they’ve been in it 50 years now.

Cardboard box, you where lucky we lived in middle of motorway and our dad would make us lick road clean, and murder us in bed before we went to sleep, well we called it a bed, but it really was a hole in the ground, you tell the youngsters now days......................................
