Surely every member is respected.

It sounds ever so cliquey.

I think in the current times when everybody should be totally equal, denoting who's 'respected' it a bit cheeky.

It used to be called "Elite Member" - Christ, imagine if we had that these days?!?!?!
On TilersForums.com it's now 'Trusted Advisor' but even then the advice changes and it's marking old now inaccurate posts as if the post should be trusted. And it can cause a bit of a shitstorm every now and again because some poor sod has tiled their bathroom the old way and their tiles are falling off.

I've put a poll up to get a feel for it. But it's not to say if either outcome is clear - that we will go for it.

It's up for discussion.

Please be professional with your replies. That said we wont be warning anybody for speaking out. This is my own thread and my chin can take it. :)

I think it's too difficult to actually decide whether a respected member is always the best person to take advice from. I would imagine most members are qualified electricians with their strengths and weaknesses. After a time on the forum I'm sure people will filter toward those who appear to give decent advice.

Welcome to the forum mate.
Out of interest, what would you class as a 'qualified electrician'?
It has so many meaning now-a-days.

Someone who has done an apprenticeship.

A 5ive week wonder may be classed as derogatory by some. But it is incorrect to call them electricians, they are merely domestic installers.

There needs to be a better tag than electrical trainee.

I haven't. . . .
. . . right. . .

Kind of my point. Members being judge worthy by staff which seem to not have been able to make the grade themselves.

Not aimed at you at all by the way. Just interesting how these things are dished out with no real fairness or consistency.
I would say that the staff have all been looked at down the line hence why they are staff.

The 'Trainee Access' tag needs to be renamed to 'Trainee Adviser' and the 'DIY' tag needs to renamed to 'DIY Adviser', if the tags are kept.

I think a lot of members are getting confused with the whole, Respected Member status.
It is nothing to do with qualifications, it was purely based on staff opinion of selected members, we wanted to say thanks to a few of the guys who over the years had been model members, nobody is perfect so they probably had the odd slip up over the years but in general were , well behaved , polite, helpful, engaging , towed the line etc etc.
I dont care if they are are milkman or bakers they got the title due to their behaviour over the years.

Do you remember who's idea the 'respected' badge was initially GMES? Also, I wonder who got the very first one?
Whilst we're at it I wonder who the very first member was on this forum and if they are still around.
It's interesting delving back and seeing it at the beginning.

Not for definite but it was one of us.
As you know we have a staff room, where we discuss things while sat around the camp fire, little bit like the Arms for you guys.
And between us decided to come up with a new badge for an handful of members, and the rest is history.
